Sorry to say but Hugh grant looks like a “pathetic loser”..someone you want to feel sorry for…I mean the guy has no “charisma”…sorta like a cold omlette!
No offence Hugh…not saying anything about the KIND of guy you are..
Actually I liked the movie. Its pretty similar to other Hugh flicks, like Notting Hill. A rambling british life, with no real tensions, a wry sense of humor and a killer sound system (did you guys see his sound system!) :~)
Anyway, if u like Notting Hill, you won't be terribly disappointed (minus Julia Roberts, ofcourse).
CocoNut, curious how you didnt spare a single laugh while i was on the floor more than my chair.
i guess americans and canadians are all to used to the jim carrey and will smith style slapstick comedy.
british comedy has this sort of wit in it that you have to understand before you laugh.
im not saying either style is good or bad, just contrasting between the two.
if you're into british comedy, or even if youre not, check out 'Snatch' starring Brad Pitt, directed by Guy Ritchie (madonna's husband). THE funniest movie that i have come across in my life. ofcourse, nothing you should be watching with ur family if u come from a modest one. too much cussing.
also by the same director there is "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels".. same piece of advice for that too.
It wasn't that bad.. I didn't expect laughs.. was looking for a lighter treatment on the lines of Bridget Jones Diary. It didn't disappoint and thankfully the romantic mushy stuff took the back seat.
If you didn't even chuckle .. get your funny bones checked..
Not bad for under four dollars.. don't go paying $8.50 for it though.. the editing is shoddy, sound just ordinary and since hollywood has spoilt us with their expensive cinematography, do not expect to be visually entertained.
P. S. Faisal.. that B&O is an expensive show off pos.. Daymon Wayans in My Wife and Kids on ABC has another one of those.
This is turning out to be one of those movies that get better with each viewing.
I enjoyed it when it first came out and caught it on TV a couple times recently, and it's gotten better! Hugh grant may not score as a leading man with his thin, pale looks, but he's put up a very decent performance; although it's the kid who steals the show.
All in all, funny in a subtle sort of way, vast improvment from the foppy englishman and promise from Nick Hoult.
couldn't agree with cHEeGUm more, those used to major doses of slapstick prolly won't appreicate it. And a more than decent offering for those who enjoyed the likes of 'Snatch' etc.
I dunno. I read the book, then watched the movie. I loved both. I also love Hugh Grant. I think he's very charming and cute, and fit the character well. I always go see his movies :) If anything I found the little boy a bit annoying.
