Abortion is not allowed in Islam but if in certain conditions such as a child with some kind of illness or mental incapability is observed before birth, is Abortion allowed?
I'm sorry that i don't have any hadith or imam's point of view as a reference..
But I was told aborption is only allowed if the mother's life is going to be in danger at the birth of the child. only.
As for the child observed to have a fatal disease, Allah may have it planned not take the child's life away until he/she is maybe 20 or more. It's still unpredictalbe. So aborption isnt' to take place. You never know what the child's outcome could be, right?
Kohal,
Abortion was banned in States too but in a landmark case in USA in 1964 it was allowed in cases where the doctors were sure that child would be born mentally retarded. A women put forward a case and argued that due to her retarded child her family life was ruined as she got divirce and financially she became bankrupt. She had to carry the retarded child for years. Say a child with AIDS is born today and her mother got it with blood transfusion; is abortion allowed?
kay,
now i dont' know if this family in the usa were muslims or not......
but let's say they were, then isn't it true, that Allah would have taken into account all the trouble the mother had to go through for, like you said: A woman put forward a case and argued that due to her retarded child her family life was ruined as she got divirce and financially she became bankrupt. She had to carry the retarded child for years.
&, Allah could reward her in the Afterworld if she faced her situations patiently.....& in having faith with God.
surely her patience counts for something.
Say a child with AIDS is born today and her mother got it with blood transfusion; is abortion allowed?<<<
So initally, the mother didnt' have AIDS but the child did???? hmmm...& now, the child at birth can give AIDS to the mum....
well, ppl have been reported to live with AIDS for even more than 10 yrs+, & it didnt' even act on them until yrs later. So maybe, the mum could be the same case???? Then again, there is the risk the mum could die a few weeks later after giving birth....
hm,
i dont' know...i'm stumped on this...
what everyone else's (Islamic) educated say??

No religion allows abortion. The case that was mentioned (of 1973) “Roe V Wade” (((Supreme Court ruled that a woman's constitutional right to privacy was more important than a State's right to regulate abortions. This decision, in effect, legalized abortion in all 50 states by ruling unconstitutional State laws banning abortion. At that time, only four states permitted therapeutic abortions: California, New York, Colorado, and North Carolina. In all other States abortion was banned.))) was about legalizing abortion, and not whether or not Abortions were performed. This landmark case gave States to make laws to protect Abortion clinics. With the grace of Almighty, Abortion is now legal. The debate now is about late-term abortions, and how they can be stopped. By making things unlawful, doesn’t mean that the practices will go away. It will just be performed in hidden places with danger to women who may seek it.
My personal view on this issue is that it is a Woman’s Body, so it should be Her decision.
All the philosophical stuff aside, there is no sight as sorrowful as to see an “Unwanted” child.
