Abida's Kabir scales world

Abida’s Kabir scales world

Sufi Diva Begum Abida Parveen’s latest album with Times India Music, titled Kabir by Abida, has scaled the AOL-Time Warner world music charts for debut at No. 17. It is the only Indian album featuring on the charts. This is the second time an Abida album has featured on AOL charts, the first being Faiz by Abida, also on Times India Music.

Kabir by Abida was released in JanuIndia in January 2003 and since then has steadily gained in popularity and sales. Unquestionably brilliant, the rightful heir to the legacy of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and the reigning queen of Sufi music, Begum Abida in Kabir By Abida, makes no mistake in taking the listeners into a spiritual trance.

The album consists of some of the most beautiful works of mystic poet Kabir. Poems like Man Lago Yaar Fakiri Mein, Sounn to Sapne Milun, and such renditions exude an energy that sends the audience in raptures and takes them into a state of that what is truly divine. Enhancing the experience of the album, is the flawless introduction and explanation of each piece of poetry by poet-composer-film maker Gulzar himself.

Poet-philosopher Kabir by profession was a weaver and perhaps that is how he wove simple words into something so wonderful as his poetry. Even today, his poetry has a major influence on both the social and the spiritual context.

Today Kabir ranks among the world’s greatest poets, having a universal appeal. The social and practical manifestation of Kabir’s philosophy has rung through the ages and across religions.

She is a world class artist.Thats a great honour for us.

Isnt it amazing how Durungo’s article never mentions Abida is from Pakistan, and lacks a link? Durungo, alot of Indians like you are trying to take portray such stars as being Indian stars, but you should never forget the truth… She hails from Pakistan, and thats where she is loved the most!!!

Oh, and just because the album was simaltaneously released in India, does not make it an Indian album…

Go Abida!
Pakistan Zindabad!:jhanda:

“Pakistani singer Abida Parveen is the owner of one of the most remarkable voices on the planet. Parveen’s gloriously honeyed voice is a warm, agile instrument, suffused with sadness and joy, strength and fragility in equal measure. With such a voice Parveen could sing a shopping list and have an audience weeping…”
