I remember the worldcup 1999 when Razzaq came in team; i dint really like it as he was the reason why Waqar was on bench. However with His Batting at no. 3 and bowling it didnt take me long to realize that this guy deserves the place in this team. So i rather criticized Azhar Mehmood and wanted Waqar as his replacement.
After Worldcup in Tri-nation series in Australia he Managed to get Tendulkar out in almost every Pak india game and then his famous 5 consecutive 4’s that he hit of Macgrath just made him an especial player. Pakistan didn’t win the series but Razzaq went home with a Player of the series bike.
Every one relized that Razzaq is an important played in the squad but Razzaq Certainly became my fav player when he all in sudden became Pakistan most Agressive Hitter and soon his sixes were compared to those of Afirid’s. His 89 of 40 was just a start to Razzaq’s new style; ever since we can always have hopes if Razzaq is on the crease; even if run rate is above 10.
Has his batting Improved a lot we also noticed his bowling got rusty. Whether it was Wasim not being arnd for tips, or Not using him when he is was most effective, or concentrating more on batting is another issue; but his bowling did didnt seem same.
His hard hitting was tested by Kiwis in mini Worldcup when Razzaq cudnt do much abt short deleveries but close his eyes. However the worst thing happed to him was droping to him for first worldcup T20 tournament. He decided to join ICL and persformed really well in 2 seasons.
He is finally back to Pakistan; good thing is that his bowling has been really good lately. He has bowled as opening bowler and done well in ICL. However the question in my mind is if he can perform same in England ? he will be playing different conditions then he has been playing for last couple of years, Matter of fact last time i remember him in England was in 2006.
I wish him and Pakistan good luck and hopefully he will once again proof PCB wrong for dropping him from first ICC T20 wc.
