Three mother-in-laws in Houston in a desi neighbourhood were sitting
around comparing notes on their Daughter-in-laws.
“There never was a daughter-in-law more devoted than my Shehnaz,” said
Sukkar bai with a sniff. “Every year she takes me to Pakistan.”
“That’s nothing compared to what my Asha does for me,” declared
Shakuntala bain proudly. “Every winter she treats me to two weeks in
Goa in a private guest house.”
Gulbanu Masi who had ABCD Bahu sat back with a proud smile. “Nobody
loves her mother-in-law like my Sony does. Nobody.”
“So what does she do?” asked the two women, turning to her. “Three
times a week she gets into a cab, goes to the best psychiatrist in the
city, and pays him a hundred and fifty dollars an hour - just to talk
about me!”
