Hey all
I am planning a trip to Abbotabad with family next week InshaAllah.I want to know hillstations/tourist attraction areas/places worth a visit in and near Abbotabad. I have shugran and muzaffarabad in my list until now. Baara market in Abbotabad is surely already there? What else? I am short of time and need to plan it out soon. Please help.
Plus we will be going from Lahore on our car. I want to know the route/directions for getting to Abbotabad as well apart from reaching there crossing through murree. I have heard there is a route from Rawat side in islamabad as well?
Re: Abbotabad
Hi There,
You can follow GT Road or Motorway (M2) to reach Rawalpindi from Lahore. Then you have two options..
1) Follow the N5 Highway till Hassanabdal and from there catch the N35 Karakoram Highway (passing Haripur, Havelian etc) and follow it till you reach Abbottabad.. It is the shortest way to reach Abbottabad from Rawalpindi.
2) Follow the Murree Expressway (From Islamabad) and it reaches Abbottabad too. In this way you will pass Murree, Ayubia, Nathiagali etc. It is slightly longer route but because of proper road markers, you won't find any difficulty.
I have traveled through both routes but I liked the second one better because of many tourist attractions in between. So you can try that if you have more time.
The best I can advice you to visit popular areas of Kaghan valley like Shoogran, Naran, Balakot etc. They are not very far from Abbottabad (you can reach there within a day).
Sufi Bhai is right. I also like 2nd route. Its much more beautiful. Climbing Murree hills from one side (Islamabad) and going down to Abbottabad. From Nathiagali to Abbottabad, its a down hill ride all the way.
Between Ayubia chowk and Nathigali, there is a place called MOORTI. you can read sign board. Itβs about 3-4 kilometers from Ayubia chowk. Just sit there for few hours and see lush green valley down there. Its like Switzerland.
I took this pic myself at Moorti.

On a side note, I would like to say that your driver should be experienced. Do not use brakes too much when going down hill. use gears. Many people from Lahore and southern punjab (plain lands) do excessive braking which results in brake problems. Natiagali climb is a bit steep.
You will enjoy this route as it is less hectic than going all the way to Naran.
