Aarzoo

Aarzoo

MainaiN daikhay haiN tanhai kay woh maNzar
Afkaar bhi meray jahaaN gooNgay ho gayay
Daikha hai woh dasht chuppi ka
BarsoN jahaaN waqt ki aari na chali

Pehlay
akayla to nahi raha itnaa
Subsay door reh kay bhi maiN
Saath jab tak diya lafzoN nay dard sehnay maiN
Bahishti ban ban kay pilaatay paani
Tashnagi jab jab barti
Duniya kay usooloN say

Aur ab
JazboN ka jam jaanaa
SaaNsoN ko nijaat kaisay milay
Aanay haiN abhi to kitnay mausam
Banay kya jo barf na yeh pighlay

Kabhi fariyaadi to nahi rahaa tera
Magar ZiNdagi aaj yeh tujhko kehta hooN
Day sau nashtar, tau bhi mujhay maNzoor
Par taaqat-e-lafz-bayaani meri
Har haal maiN mujh tak rehnay day

Tashnagi-pyaas, bahishti-paani pilaanay wala

Re: Aarzoo

Brijinder saheb, I read your poetry and those of others at this site. Yours is not superficial. But somehow I fail to appreciate why, for example, this poem of yours should appeal to the reader. It's your Arzoo. Why the reader should worry about your Arzoo. How can he be connected with your poem? What inner depths of his being are you awakening here? What does he realize in himself by reading your poem that he was unaware of?

What's the purpose of poetry? Why do we write/read poetry? I have so many questions that are not new, and have been answered by poets in different ways. What do you have to say?

My comment is to be taken as a crit, and please don't take it in any other way. Regards. Ravi

Re: Aarzoo

Kopra saheb,
This is a serious discussion which u have initiated. To me,poetry is a shorthand to write my own feelings n toughts. It is tool, for me,to understand myself n the world around me.In the prcoess,if my poetry also touches some other hearts, manages to provide words to the thoughts n emotions of the readers,it is an additional reward.
An artist is not here to sermonise,to impart WISDOm but to pose questions,to compel readers to start finding answers for themselves. In the process the artist also grows. The personal pains, joys n the questionings of an artist are not his alone as these are the echoes of universal pains, joys n questionings.
This is what i have come to understand.I hope I make myself clear to you.
Regards
