Aaroh/Sawaal

I told Uncle Spock I would listen to Junoon’s Dewaar, but ended up listening to Aaroh instead. :stuck_out_tongue:

After months of sitting in the corner of my room, I broke this CD out of it’s plastic wrapping and popped it into my computer.

I was kinda left speechless. I didn’t expect Pakistanis to come up with such good alternative style music. What an impressive CD … especially the instrumental piece Hoor. I get the feeling their music is influenced by 80s pop, a little bit of Bon Jovi and Sound Garden. What do you think?

Tomorrow, I will listen to the Noori and then maybe Deewar by Junoon as Spock insists it’s a good album. :stuck_out_tongue:

As much as I love their music, Aaroh is nothing but a cheap imitation of VS. Their music is fantastic and is signature VS. But the vocalist brings the whole band down.

As far as new bands are concerned, I think Noori and Fuzon are the leading the race. And this comes from an old, bitter man (I’m talking about myself) who thinks rock music comes straight from the devil. But even I have to admit that Noori is bloody amazing. Fuzon on the other hand is in a class by itself. They have all the talent to carry forward NFAK’s legacy if they stay true to their music and avoid selling out to the Tapals, the Liptons, the Pespis, the Cokes, the Tulsis etc etc.

Junoon is finished - they were finished the day they sold out and became a “sufi” band. but that’s just my opinion and hopefully the Junoon fans can deal with that in a mature manner.

waisay, if I had to make one recommendation from amongst today’s artists, I would say listen to Abrar. Apparently his songs are quite popular with gora people too. The man is a visionary, a revolutionary of sorts. What a great great man he truly is. If only I weren’t straight… :teary1:

I don't know ... this is my first time hearing Aaroh. You see, I recently came back from Karachi with about 70 music CDs.....half of them Pakistani pop/rock acts. So, I'm only now listening to my the stuff I bought.

I will listen to Noori and Junoon on the weekend.

I like Fuzon and Abrar ... I have to agree with you there. I don't think Aaroh are anything like VS (I'm assuming this is Vital Signs).

if u like classical music, and a bit of rock, then you should definitely listen to mekaal hasan band.

www.mekaalhasanband.com

listen to their album on www.muziq.net

this dude has had a studio known as digital fidelty studios for around 8 years and bands such as co-ven, noori, and entity paradigm all recorded their albums from his studio just bcuz he is the first pakistani to use live drums in a studio and not synthesized keyboards where the loop is set and it keeps playing.

excerpt from his site:
Mekaal was surrounded by music from childhood. His father's passion for jazz influenced him throughout his early years. After graduating from Government College, Lahore, Mekaal studied music at the Berklee College of Music, Boston. His stay exposed him to a wide variety of music and musicians, many of whom are influences to this day. Returning to Pakistan in 1995, Mekaal set up a state of the art recording facility, Digital Fidelity Studios where many of the top artists of Pakistan record. Mekaal formed The Mekaal Hasan Band towards the end of 2000 and the Sampooran record features his long standing writing partnership with keyboardist Javed Akhtar.

do listen to their beautifully played and critically acclaimed track sajan.

In case you didnt know, Junoon has always been a Sufi rock band and have been there for a long time, and they are no longer Pakistan’s best band, they are Asia’s best band. And no, their sufi music hasnt ended, so you even know what they play at their concerts? You’d be very surprised when they launch their next album too. Btw, I remember you wanted ‘deewar’ from me too, when I got it and told you about it on msn(everyone knew it wasnt a Sufi album so why?) :hehe:

Also, would you mind explaining what you mean by sold out? They are the biggest Pakistani Rock Band, and undoubtedly Asia’s biggest. Too bad all you Junoon critics whine on how the band is finished, whereas their albums are creating record sales, the band has a bigger than ever North America tour lined up. If mollah bashing means sold out, yeah musharrafs sold out too :hehe: Oh yeah, by the way, another junooni fact, Musharraf is a big Junoon fan, I am sure no other band has the power to get him up clapping and starting on Jazba Junoon. Mushy’s son also organized the MIT Junoon concert.

The only things that junoon sold out are their albums  And yeah, please dont link NFAKs legacy to boybands.

As for VS, it was a good band in its times, alot of stuff was copied and imitated, but credit goes to them for bringing a revolution.

Aaroh, I am sure all the VS members would be laughing if they read what you say. By this logic, most of the bands out here right now are VS imitations.

All you little Pappus who have not even heard Jazba Junoon and think the band ended when they went Sufi, bring it on bozos! The fact that you guys bring them in every one of your threads, even when they are not being discussed proves how great and famous they are

hmm, I like the way you schedule your music runs... Wesay, I recommended 'Azadi' if I remember correctly.

Aaroh and Meekal Hasan Band:k:

Sambri, I listened to Noori on the drive into work this morning and was extremely unimpressed. They have maybe 3 songs on their latest CD that I can actually tolerate. It's just not my cup of tea. I'm such a Strings and Aaroh kinda girl.

Spock, man, I love ya 'n all, but sometimes you sound like such a bigot. You need to calm down, maybe take a toke a few times.

Mehnaz, Aaroh has one of the best guitarists around and the guitar element is used a lot and fairly well in their songs. Unfortunately, a lot of their songs sound a bit similar, because of the guitar element, I think. If I'm listenin only to Aaroh, then I get bored fairly quickly. Fuzon, on the other hand, has an amazing amount of variety. The vocalist in Fuzon can also input a lot of variety into the songs. I never get bored listenin to Fuzon. IMO, Fuzon is best band out there right now, Aaroh a close second, then Jal (although I need to hear more of their work). Noori has the punk rock flavour that I occasionally enjoy but doesn't make up the bulk of my listening (I'm usually not in hte mood for the drums, love them though). Noori falls in somewhere between Aaroh and Jal.

Mehnaz, i hope u did get hold of EP's Irtiqa coz thats what i have been listening to ever since my trip back from Karachi. EP to me is the first Paki band after Junoon that has some seriously powerful and meaningful tracks. Rahguzar of EP to me is the best piece of music produced by a Pakistani band to date (just a personal opinion!).

As for Noori, i think their unreleased songs like Ooncha and Mujhay Roko are more my type than any of their Suno Kay Mein Ho Jawan album. This album has kinda too 'goody-goody' feel to it which i find hard to imply in real life. Therefore i am waiting for their 2nd album.

AaroH is promising but a little shallow lyrically.

I didn't get EP's album as they didn't have it in stock when I was in Karachi.

I don't like Noorie .... but out of all the CDs I have listened to thus far, and I'm talking about "groups" here not solo acts, I would have to say that I really like Strings the best. I did listen to Junoon's Deewar and it's o.k. They are tolerable .... not bad really! :D

yeh hoi na baat! bhai ko defend karney aye ho! I like that... Well, if one puts in silly arguments like (junoon sold out when they went sufi) thats what one will get... btw when I got my hands on deewar, he asked for it, maybe hes a junooni in disguise ;) But dont worry, samby is still my love.

Btw, I love you too RT!

Hey, I told you to listen to azadi! Btw, how did you like 'tarra jalla and ghoom tanna'? Anywayz, both you and extreme have listened to Junoon finally and gave a positive response. Mission Accomplished.

P.S. Aaroh may be good, but Noori is way better, Im dissapointed you didnt like it.

Well I can't please everybody. :p I like Strings better than them all.

MehnazQ tell me you'r kidding about strings.

Mekal Hasan Band, now thats what i call sufi music, i have only heard rabba and sanwal and was impressed.

I also don’t like Noori…its good to see im not the only one. I don’t see what rage is about. Strings are good :k: and also Spock is rite…you should listen to “Azaadi” by Junoon :k: or I would even recommend “Parvaaz”

Their songs are good, but their videos are too girly

Right on!

Re: Aaroh/Sawaal

these 3 songs of Aaroh from their album Sawal r A.W.E.S.O.M.E.:

  • na kaho
  • jalan
  • sawal
i have heard them live as well. all the band members need haircuts  the lead singer’s voice waise is jus A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. :k:

Re: Aaroh/Sawaal

AAROH is sooo much better then the OLD bands

nabeeeel is tooo good!

Re: Aaroh/Sawaal

The instrumentals 'Zarab' and 'Hoor' are highlights of the album IMO.
