Aaqib to assist bowlers at NCA
KARACHI: Pakistan’s former fast bowler Aaqib Javed on Wednesday said his first step would be to focus on correcting bowlers’ actions when he takes over as the bowling coach of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore next year to train upcoming pacers.
“Yes, Pakistan is facing serious problems over players’ suspect bowling actions and I will be focusing on correcting their actions to save them from any consequences that Shabbir faced in his career when I take charge as the NCA bowling coach,” Aaqib told reporters here at the National Stadium.
As many as 41 Pakistan bowlers were reported for suspect bowling actions in the current domestic season besides Shabbir who was banned for one year by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after being reported twice for having an illegal bowling action last year.
Aaqib insisted that it is a serious problem which Pakistan is facing and feared that it would become worse if no measures were taken to correct the actions right from the beginning. “If we correct their (bowlers’) actions right from the start there would have been less problems for the players and this is why it will be my first step to focus on bowlers’ actions to save them from future problems,” the 34-year-old pacer said.
