We’ve discussed this before, but let’s hash this out again. When talking to the following people/relationships, do you use aap or tum:

1. Friend/cousin older than you (and how much older)
2. Friend/cousin younger than you
3. Spouse
4. Child/niece/nephew

I never really thought of it…since I speak mostly english with my cousins here, but in Pak, I guess for all of them I say tum. aap for the elders.

i personally love ‘tu’, it’s under rated and seen as rude whereas really if it’s used between close people it makes you feel so informal and comfortable…

I never understood why that’s such a “bad” word…
