Mohammad Amir to be struck from ICC Awards list
ICC awards are still 5 weeks away. If proven not guilty ICC must put him back in that list.

They should handcuff the trio and have them parade in Cardiff. This should not be taken very lightly or it will reoccur every 3 to 5 years. Lose one Amir now and save many down the road. Our public's memory is very short.

**Aamer, Asif cut from cricket awards list **
Embattled Pakistan bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif, currently embroiled in a corruption storm, have been dropped from the ICC’s annual awards list.
**
Aamer was in the running for the best emerging player award while Asif was listed in the best cricketer category.**
“The pair’s nominations have been withdrawn and the jury has been informed,” an ICC spokesman confirmed to AFP without giving further details.
The awards ceremony will take place in Bangalore on October 6.
Aamer and Asif, as well as Test captain Salman Butt, are all being investigated following allegations of ‘spot-fixing’ in the fourth Test against England last week.
All three have been charged by the ICC with “various offences” under its anti-corruption code and they have been suspended pending a decision on those charges.

Fair enough. You cannot award a cheat.
It's a shame :/
Re: Aamir to be removed from ICC Awards nominations list
it is like saying if a victim of rape is not able to bring four witnesses who saw the intercourse, the rapist should be allowed to roam in the streets.
Sometimes laws could be a deterrent towards justice.
Re: Aamir to be removed from ICC Awards nominations list
Saddening :( But just. I guess.
Re: Aamir to be removed from ICC Awards nominations list
Not saying Aamer is innocent but as things stand he is only accused at present. I think the ICC should have waited until the player had been found guilty of his act and sentenced by the tribunal in the next 14 days or so. Their decision would have looked more proper and appropriate then. Like our joker ambassador, ICC has jumped the gun here

who needs four witnesses in case of RAPE???
Re: Aamir to be removed from ICC Awards nominations list
Asif.... if there is enough information available for ICC to be able to suspend these players right now.. it's also enough to make sure they are not awarded anything.

That is funny Asif. People here on this fourm declared all of them cheats including Aamir even before ICC suspended them. And you want ICC to still keep him a nominee after he has been suspended???

I think ICC jumped the gun when they put charges on these players. But once they have done that it makes sense to remove Aamir from the list. It would have looked even more stupid if they still had kept him as a nominee. Again that would have led to more mudslinging.

The trial begins in 12 days from today and I expect a swift verdict of 'guilty' or 'not guilty' (wishful) here - within a day or two
The awards are still some 4.5 weeks away...Right!
which would have still given ICC two weeks or so to drop Aamer's name from the list if found guilty
It is like announcing an election result once a candidate has secured 50% of the votes before counting has even been completed in a constituency
Let the due process take care of itself
My Q is: What's the hurry here? Why be so impatient?

let me ask you back a question. ICC said that they will wait for police to finish their investigation and ASCU to compile their report before deciding if an action needs to be taken. But, then two days later they suspended the trio without waiting for police or the ASCU to finish their tasks.
What was the hurry there? They could have waited till Friday evening when police completed their investigations and gave their report. In my opinion ICC messed it up at that moment creating doubts in the minds of people that it was not a simple case of ICC excercising their right to suspend these players but probably they crumbled under pressure from ECB, media etc.
However, once they suspended them it seriously looks odd to have Aamir on the nominations list. How would sponsors of the ICC award (I think it is LG) would think when advertizing for the event on the TV, lets suppose in the next few, that they need to show Aamir as well among other nominees?
Anyway, read my first post. If Aamir is proven not guilty, ICC must make sure that he is back on that list on time.

I guess I understand what you are saying. But will the trial actually finish that early? It could take months. Perhaps the ICC assumed that and took action. I am not sure how the UK system works.
To me Aamir is guilty so I really don't want him to be awarded. It's such a shame because I used to absoultely love watching him bowl. Hopefully he gets a 4-5 yr ban and comes back clean he will still only be 23-24.
Re: Aamir to be removed from ICC Awards nominations list
Removing Aamir's name from the ICC awards is inherently unfair. Unless he took money from the bookies to OVER-PERFORM, why should he be denied this award? He was nominated because of his performances with the ball, not because of his contagious smile or effervescent personality. If those performances are far above those of other nominees, then he should get the award.

I w'd be really surprised if it takes more than a few days for the tribunal to reach a verdict in this case. The players' lawyers will ofcourse appeal against a 'guilty' verdict and that process could run for many months

You're right on all those accounts, but he didn't take that many wickets because of corruption, but despite it. This means that he was a better bowler than everyone else during the past year, and hence deserves the award if the sole criteria of the award the number of wickets.

If convicted, Aamer w'd certainly be guilty of bringing the game into disrepute but cheat is a wrong word here. There is no evidence that he tampered with the ball or used underhand means to get wickets.
Deliberately overstepping or bowling no-balls on demand w'd have achieved the opposite if anything
