Aamir khan (*pictured below on sets of the rising) was 5th choice for ‘The Rising’!

Bet you didn’t know this. Ketan Mehta’s much talked about film ‘The Rising’ (Aamir Khan, Amisha Patel) was not first offered to Aamir Khan.
Believe it or not, Aamir was Mehta’s fifth choice!
First, Mehta wanted Amitabh Bachchan in the central role. That time, the film was titled ‘Kartoos’. Then, he offered it to Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff and Sanjay Dutt. All four of them declined the offer politely. That time, the film was not planned to be made on a lavish scale.
Later, Mehta sat down and did some rethinking. He expanded the canvas, and of course, increased the financial inputs. Suddenly he realised that he should approach Aamir, because Aamir had created waves in ‘Lagaan’ which like ‘The Rising’ was a period film.
P.S. "Aamir agreed, but not before asking him for a record price of Rs 7.5 crores.
