**New Delhi: **The recent spat between Bollywood Actor Aamir Khan and Lyricist-Writer Javed Akhtar took an ugly turn, as Aamir quit the newly-appointed panel, which was set up to look into the royalty sharing between the producers and lyricists/music directors.
The 10-member committee to discuss the existing Copyright Act, was formed by the Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal. Aamir was the only actor on the Committee. Other members include Bollywood producers, writers, composers and lyricists.

The panel will consider the proposed amendments, which will be forwarded to the government for implementation.
If the amendments are passed by the Parliament, it will be for the first time the lyricists and music directors will receive a share of royalties earned from songs used in Bollywood films.
According to media reports, the trouble began during a meeting of the panel, where Aamir said that a lyricist did not contribute much to the success of a song and picturisation is more important.

Javed Akhtar retorted, asking Aamir, “Your first big song was ‘Papa Kehte Hain’. Did it make you a star or did you make that song run?” When Aamir changed his stand and said that the contribution of the writer was greater than the lyricist, Javed Akhtar retaliated saying, “Good for Chetan Bhagat”.
The reference to Chetan Bhagat was a direct reference to recent controversies surrounding the author’s book, ‘Five Point Someone’ and Aamir Khan’s blockbuster movie, ‘3 Idiots’. That was enough for Aamir to leave the meeting and resign from the panel, sources said.
Aamir Khan later clarified about his resignation, saying he was being targeted by certain people in public and his integrity was being qquestioned. “I cannot make any meaningful contribution in this atmosphere”, he said.
