In the defense of lyricists, 80% of all songs in bollywood are written after the music has been composed and the setting for the song has been determined… so the “inane” lyrics are demanded by the script and the music.
We’re talking about the same Javed Akhtar who can write masterpieces such as Jashn-e-BahaaraaN.
Coming back to the debate, I personally think it’s a matter of individual preference… I like songs with good lyrics and music irrespective of how its rendered in the movie.
