Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was fined an estimated £2,900 for breaching the code of conduct on day one of the first Test against Australia.
Shoaib, who pointed Matthew Hayden back to the pavilion after dismissing him, was deducted 40% of his match fee by match referee Ranjan Madugalle.
The paceman finished with 5-99 in Australia’s first innings.
He pulled up injured just before stumps but said ankle taping had ripped skin off and he expects to bowl on Saturday.
Shoaib was charged by umpires Billy Bowden, Rudi Koertzen and third official Steve David of breaching section 1.6 of the ICC code.
The section reads: “Pointing or gesturing towards the pavilion in an aggressive manner by a bowler or other member of the fielding side upon the dismissal of a batsman.”

This is disgraceful. Gillespie can curse YK again and again and get away with it, and Actor cant point at the pavilion??? These contests are part of the beauty of cricket. This might be against ICC laws, but so is swearing. What Actor did wasn't half as bad as having conversations about mothers, wives and sisters. Well done ICC, you have again needlessly shown how bigoted you are!
