A world with no boundaries

Today I went for an International Banquet at our university with the theme “A world with no boundaries”. They have this dress code dinner every Fall semester, where they give out awards and have a little ‘cultural show’. This year the cultural shows were not very big, they even skipped the fashion show (which is usually a must). Around 150 or so people were there.

Here are some snaps!!

In the end of the show, they had a dance called “Dance of the world”. The participants were from all the different countries represented on campus. Most of them were not wearing their native dress but of another country represented on the stage. I guess they exchanged clothes or something

They started out with an Indian beat with song from some popular Indian movie, don’t ask me what was the song.

Then it was some Vietnamese song. Followed by a Mexican song & an African song (I think, not sure)

In the end was the hulla gulla BHANGRA!!! All the PSA students were doing bhangra off stage. It was really fun.

Just some other things, Pakistani Student Association has MashAllah done pretty well in talent shows. Mostly doing different cultural dances & plays. Last year a Pakistani couple came first by doing bhangra and I must say it was classic.

The big stage pic. that you see in the back with a dove and sun is also made by a Pakistani student, Ali! Very talented young lad, I must say!

The following group is mostly Pakistani and Indians.

thanks 4 sharing :)

Oh wow!! Seems like it was a blast.
It reminds me of the multicultural weeks that used to take place in my high school every year. Each day of the week was dedicated to a continent. Asia day was the most fun for us...as 30% of our student population was desi. Everyone would dress up in shalwar kameez, sarees, lehngas, etc. Even the guys would wear shalwar kameez. Many of our teachers were very fond of the traditional dress...and would actually wear lehngas and stuff. This one time even our principal wore a lehnga on Asia day.
During lunch, we'd have all these different stalls set up. People would be applying mehndi..and we'd have desi music, food, traditional items for sale and everything.
At the end of the week, we'd have a talent show where different people would perform dances/fashion shows, etc. It was just awsome!

wicked pics :k:

thanks 4 sharin
