A woman's body

Since someone who shall remain nameless keeps complaining I don’t post enough here is a thread.

I was watching the Insider where the two commentators get into an argument over weening a kid from breastfeeding. The female anchor said its the woman’s choice as it is her body and the bond between mother and child is something a man will never understand.

Woman’s body. That seems to be the dumbest saying in the English language. If its her body and she wants to kill her kid it should be a-okay right? After who understands better the bond between mother and child.

Freaking feminists. Stupid illogical beings. Most likely PMSing.

Re: A woman’s body

^ You sound like you’re PMSing. Everything okay? :hugz:

Have some chocolate.

Re: A woman’s body

Pot. Kettle. Black. And how gender insensitive. If I said that i would get banned

Re: A woman's body

^ But there are so many better reasons to ban you. :D

Re: A woman's body

Nah there is only one. :D But I would truly appreciate it if you didn't derail my thread, spoke on the matter at hand as someone who enforces the new patriot act on GS :D

Re: A woman's body

^ Okay fine. But are you more interested in the breastfeeding component of the topic or in the abortion implications?

Re: A woman's body

That is for the person to decide on what they respond to. I rather not dictate how people choose to express themselves. Also you got a PM regarding the points you just allocated to me.

Re: A woman’s body

Kyun bhai, does a man not have a mother?

Anyway, a BIGGGGG difference between breastfeeding and killing, CM! :smack:

Re: A woman’s body

Didn’t want to be accused of going offtopic. :teary1:

Well, I think when there is another life involved, the “it’s my body” line is not a legitimate excuse. Does that mean I think people should nurse their 30-year-olds? Nope. But I also don’t think there’s any reason for legal interference in that. Just education so that they make appropriate decisions.

Abortion really troubles me because I do feel that embryos and fetuses are alive. But I don’t think I have sorted my feelings enough to state that it should always be legal or always be illegal. In early pregnancy in particular I do feel it is about the “woman’s body”.

Re: A woman's body

How early Sahar? I used to think that too until I found out that you can detect the heartbeat at 6 weeks. That's 4 weeks after conception. I changed my view after that.

Re: A woman's body

What about in cases of rape or incest?

Re: A woman's body

Honestly, I don't know. I can't see myself ever considering it as an option, but that doesn't mean I am comfortable imposing my belief on others.

Re: A woman's body

I think it should be allowed. Hopefully it would get caught early.

Re: A woman's body

^ This! I have my own personal beliefs when it comes to many things. However, I would never force my own opinions or beliefs on someone else (especially when it comes to life-changing event such as pregnancy).

On a side note: one thing I always find interesting. Whenever I meet adults who believe abortion should be illegal....I almost always ask them how many children have they adopted so far. The typical answer is none.

I think its very easy to talk about all the reasons abortion should be illegal and why it's wrong. However....there is rarely any discussion about the babies that would be born who're clearly not wanted by their parents. If abortion is illegal, then who should be responsible for giving these children a safe/secure/comfortable upbringing? The mom clearly doesn't want them.

Re: A woman's body

I agree. I don't understand why people have a problem with others choosing to do so. Having a child is probably the biggest change in your life and to force someone to have a baby just doesn't make sense. The way I see it, if a woman chooses to have an abortion that's between her and God but if we force a woman to have a baby she does not want, it's the baby that suffers the most in this world so why make a baby go through that?

Re: A woman's body

Poor CM.

Re: A woman's body

Let's take it a step further...what if the mother has a terminal illness or someother physical ailment that would make pregnancy life threatening for her?

I totally agree with you Sahar...it's not for me or any of us to impose our beliefs on anyone else. When I was a teen (16'ish) I found out that my mother had an abortion when I was a few years old. I automatically assumed the worst about her (was already nursing wounds from my parent's divorce)treated her with such disdain and anger, that now, as a mother myself, I am down right ashamed of my thoughts and behavior. When I finally "had it out" with her regarding this revelation, I found out that the reason my mother chose to abort the pregnancy (in the first trimester) is because she was suffering from a chronic kidney ailment (which I did vaguely know about) and her doctor warned her the another pregnancy could cause her to have to go on dialysis (which was not an option at all as she was the sole support of the family). With my mother's first pregnancy with my eldest sister, her kidney problems were so major, she nearly lost her own life....so yes, my views are abortion have changed significently in that I hesitate to take a stance either for or against because not all situations are the same. Who am I to make black and white of something that obviously can have so many shades of gray...
