A Web Howto ? please

When you try to send an email in gmail with out putting and recipients .
It diables the back ground and put a gey tint and brings up a message box .

Many other sites are using similar technique as well these days . Does any one know to do that . Please .

This is an example of a feature associated with a RIA (rich Internet application)... a core constituent of Web 2.0 based sites.

You can use Ajax to do something like this or an easier approach would be to use Flex.
