The other day I read a sign on a public toilet door saying “CCTV in operation”.
Is this allowed by UK Law?
Is it not an invasion of peoples privacy?
What if some of the police with access to these recordings has a fetish for people urinating/defecating and passes it onto likeminded friends? I’m worried for the children and women who visit public toilets.
I bet some of the voyeur videos one comes across on the Internet are recorded by CCTV.
Im pretty sure the cameras are not located at any strategic positions, and are primarily used to capture who comes in and goes out...in case evidence of someone's presence is needed to investigate a crime that may have occured inside the toilets.
If it's women's toilets they'd prob just be pointed at the main bit nr the sinks, am sure it would be illegal for them to be filming girls actually 'doing their stuff' in the cubicles lol.. Tbh I don't see anything wrong with it, I'd feel safer knowing there's CCTV if using a train station loo in the evenings for example. When I was at school I used to have to go to and from Brighton Station a lot and it has the creepiest toilets I have ever seen.. I actually saw a needle on the floor once, God knows what else used to go on in there..
It's not just happening in the UK my friend... but in US, Canada, Australia... those are some places where i have heard of such stories...
They're basically there to discourage sexual misconduct and drug abuse...(in the men's room only might i add) but as far as i'm aware, it is illegal.
I'm seriously disturbed by this..i can understand trying to limit sexual misconduct or drug abuse but how about a little privacy for those of us using the facilities? i would rather avoid going to public bathrooms but sometimes we're forced to use them. Sick sick stuff.
Yes there are camera in toilets in public places, but before jumping up & down and saying it's sick we should use some common sense. These cameras are not installed in individual cubicles monitoring you "doing your stuff", they are installed in communal areas. In busy spots, like Waterloo station, Heathrow airport or any London Underground station, they serve to monitor criminal/terrorist activities. Ever considered this that in quiet time these toilets would be ideal places for drug dealing & mugging if there is no CCTV monitoring there.
Installing camera INSIDE cubicles IS violation of privacy and it can be reported to Police if it's in a private commercial property OR to the council if it is in Public place.
As for the urinal area, it depends on where the camera is installed. On ceiling just above the urinals looking down at you "doing your thing" or on the back wall in a way that your back is towards camera.
