A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

Salam all,

What is your understanding of this hadith?

From 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar, radhiyallahu ‘anhu, who said: "We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, and he mentioned the fitan, and mentioned many of them, until he mentioned the fitnah of al-Ahlas. So someone said: “O Messenger of Allah, and what is the fitnah of al-Ahlas?” He said: "It is fleeing and plunder. Then the fitnah of as-Sarra’, its corruption will from under the feet of a man from my household, who claims to be from me, but he is not from me, for my allies are only the pious. Then the people will unite on the leadership of a man like a hip-bone on a rib. Then the fitnah of ad-Duhayma’, which will not leave a single one from this Ummah without giving him a slap. Whenever it is said that it has finished, it will continue longer. A man during it will be a mu’min in the morning and a kafir in the evening, until the people become two camps, a camp of faith with no hypocrisy, and a camp of hypocrisy with no faith. When that happens, then await the Dajjal on that day or the next." Narrated by Abu Dawud, kitab al-fitan.

Re: A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

I have never heard this hadith in this wording..only familiar with the last part..which says a man may be mu'min duirng the day and kafir int he evening..I am sure the scholars have commented on this hadith..

Re: A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

My initial thoughts are that none of these things have happened yet ... Secondly, the last part resembles the statement of John the Baptist in the Bible ...

Matthew 3:11 - 12

"I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

They both describe a sifting process of people ... in to two groups.

Re: A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

so how did that prophecy regarding Jesus(as) materialized?

Re: A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

The Christians have their own interpretation ... They use the accounts of talking in tongues as the fulfilment ... perhaps the Ahmadiyya have their own interpretation ... Personally, for me that has not happened yet ...

Re: A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

I certainly believe that the terms Al-Ahlas, As-Sarra, Ad-Duhayma have very definite meanings and some of the meaning of this hadith is encoded in unravelling the nature of those names.

Re: A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

polarization of faith will take place. truth and falsehood will be separated from each other, iA

Re: A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

Allah and His Messenger (pbuh) know the best meaning.

Hear’s my attempt to unravel the meaning.

The first part,** Al-Ahlas**: * "It is fleeing and plunder

*I think it refers to Mongol invasion.

“Following the brutal Mongol invasion of Central Asia under Genghis Khan, and after the sack of Baghdad, the Mongol Empire’s rule extended across most Muslim lands in Asia. The Abbasid caliphate was destroyed and the Islamic civilization, especially Mesopotamia, suffered much devastation and was replaced by Tengriism and Buddhism as the official religion of the empire.[SUP][16]](Persecution of Muslims - Wikipedia)[/SUP] However, the Mongols attacked people for goods and riches and not because of their religion. Many later Mongol khans and rulers became Muslims themselves like Oljeitu and other Ilkhanid and Golden Horde rulers and inhabitants. There was no real effort to replace Islam with any other religion, but to plunder goods from anyone that didn’t submit, which was characteristic to Mongol warfare…”

  • The Grand Library of Baghdad, containing countless precious historical documents and books on subjects ranging from medicine to astronomy, was destroyed. Survivors said that the waters of the Tigris ran black with ink from the enormous quantities of books flung into the river.

  • Citizens attempted to flee, but were intercepted by Mongol soldiers who killed with abandon. Martin Sicker writes that close to 90,000 people may have died (Sicker 2000, p. 111). Other estimates go much higher. Wassaf claims the loss of life was several hundred thousand. Ian Frazier of The New Yorker says estimates of the death toll have ranged from 200,000 to a million.[SUP][18]](Persecution of Muslims - Wikipedia)[/SUP]

  • The Mongols looted and then destroyed mosques, palaces, libraries, and hospitals. Grand buildings that had been the work of generations were burned to the ground.

  • The caliph was captured and forced to watch as his citizens were murdered and his treasury plundered. According to most accounts, the caliph was killed by trampling. The Mongols rolled the caliph up in a rug, and rode their horses over him, as they believed that the earth was offended if touched by royal blood. All but one of his sons were killed, and the sole surviving son was sent to Mongolia.

  • Hulagu had to move his camp upwind of the city, due to the stench of decay from the ruined city.

The second period of fitnah, As-Sarra

  • its corruption will from under the feet of a man from my household, who claims to be from me, but he is not from me, for my allies are only the pious.

*According to Sh. Jibril Haddad, it refers to Saddam Hussain.

“In the summer of 1990, at the time the words ALLAHU AKBAR first appeared on the flag of Iraq, Saddam Hussain declared he was a descendent of the Prophet Muhammad, upon him peace, and produced a family chart to prove it. This chart hangs in one of the heavily frequented Shi`i mosques in Iraq, next to the presumed grave of one of Ahl al-Bayt. Saddam also began to address King Hussayn of Jordan, a real 27-generation descendent, as “cousin.””

This part *Then the people will unite on the leadership of a man like a hip-bone on a rib…
*
I don’t know if it’s already happened but it means people will choose a ruler who’s not fit to rule.

The third part,** Ad-Duhayma** means pitch-dark.

““It will leave none of this Umma except it will smite him. When they think it is over it will linger some more. At that time, a man will rise a believer in the morning and will reach night a disbeliever. People will eventually take two sides - the rallying - place of belief which will contain no hypocrisy; and the rallying- place of hypocrisy which will contain no belief. When you see this, expect the appearance of the Anti-Christ (Dajjal) from one day to the next.””

May be we are in it…but I don’t see two apparent groups yet. I see a lot of confused people…still trying to work out if they belong to Islam or the modern world, but I think we’re not very far from seeing the sifting process.

Re: A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

Jesus' prophecy was fulfilled with the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70.

Re: A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

I am not sure if this is applicable to the hadith, but there have been two distinct groups formed in almost every country since around five years ago. The current struggle in Turkey between secular liberals and conservative muslims is an example of two such groups. Similarly in Egypt - those who back the government and those who feel the revolution has been betrayed. In the US, there is the Tea Party and the Occupy-WallStreet group (reflected in politics by Republicans and Democrats respectively). Such two groups have formed elsewhere in world, although the center between left and right varies in each country. It is difficult to see which group is the one of faith and which is for hypocrisy - I can only comment that those on the side of the poor, the oppressed, the disadvantaged - these are the ones on the side of God (but that is only my opinion).

Re: A very important hadith regarding the end tmes

Interesting. Actually, I had similar thoughts in my minds regarding this part of the hadith.
