Do a search on SYM on stereotypes and women gender issues. I actually started the thread and CE and Fable had some excellent points. I know you don’t like CE much but she linked some very interesting studies on gender stereotypes and how long it takes for these stereotypes to be eliminated. Ironically what the studies show is that it has to be the same gender which enlightens the increase in “open thoughts” on the matter.

PCG and sadzz what is the difference between a religious female stereotype and a traditional woman’s stereotypes. We are discussing stereotypes and not reality. As for backbiting and bickering, hey monkey see monkey do. Not all wives and MIL bicker and back bite.

For those who think that I should stick to my own views, and let others stick to negative stereotypes - all I have to say is you lot can stick to your own views, and let me do what I want as far as these stereotypes are concerned. If you dont wish to be interested, or if you dont care or if you think it is fine and dandy to let negative stereotype live on - great.
However, stereotypes annoy me. Especially when people refuse to look at the facts and remain ignorant. So they might not affect me directly, but I can assure you folks that they affect somebody . And this process of thinking at some point in the future, or rather any other negative stereotype is going to affect you at some point in your lives. But if you’re fine with that too, I dont quite care. I assume you all would be jumping up and down and yelling murder if it affected you or if you were put down by it or insulted.
I didnt open this thread to inform people Im traditional and you should all kiss my feet for it because its a great thing. I opened it because people need to know that there is so much more to people, and ignorance should be decreasing not increasing. People are free to think as they like, but it never killed anyone to look at more than one point of view.
I am vary TrayDishNale too. I like my woman a little naan-traydishnale and directv so we can both raise semi traydishnale and semi directv as nowadyas they are showing traditional programs on both.
Do you have any idea how ‘modern’ and ‘liberal’ Pakistani women are viewed? You know, the kind of women who don’t want to give up their careers to raise babies or the kind of women who think there is more to life than marriage and actually want to travel and see the world? Yes, there are many negative stereotypes associated with this group too, and I would know considering I, and plenty of other girls here, are often blasted here on GS simply for falling into this group or for merely being born in the west.
The stuff that is said is downright insulting and crude. I’m sure you can do your own search and recall some of the garbage that has been written here in the past. The question is, do you (generally speaking of course) let it affect you? It can be very upsetting as long as you allow it to be. Or, at the end of the day, do you carry on your own merry way, content with who you are knowing that not everybody has the same ignorant mindset and that there are plenty of people out there who are actually willing to look past this and get to know you for who you are?
Anyway, you can discuss this traditional woman stereotype all you want, please don’t think I’m trying to stop you or anything, I wouldn’t dream of it.

Stereotypes exist for a reason … usually cause people can’t be bothered to make an effort and get to know other perspectives, and of course, you already know that. Khair, good luck in your quest to englighten the world MQ.
Make peace? Mehnaz why would you feel the need to do that. We didnt have a war or anything. Oopsi or did I miss something? Gs is great due to the different views. I dont mind it. Why- have I done you some wrong? Im still lost as to why you need to make peace with me.
