“It is an indication of truth’s jealousy that it has not made for anyone apath to it, and that it has not deprived anyone of the hope of attaining it, and it has left people running in the deserts of perplexity and drowning in the seas of doubt; and he who thinks that he has attained it, it dissociates itself from him, and he who thinks he has dissociated himself from it has lost his way. Thus there is no attaining it and noavoiding it- it is inescapable.”
Arabian Nights and Days
has anyone read this book and/or other books by Naguib Mahfouz?
well, i will begin, the book gives an accountof a shameful man, who becomes shameless.
it captures the fall of a character whose tendency is to fall anyway.
I had started his "The Beginning and The End," but have not finished it yet. it is quite depressing, but then it is said to be one of his most tragic works.
another thing being that maybe a little is lost in translation.
