I think it is perhaps strange but we should still respect everyone regardless of how strange it seems…
I know that it seems daft but belief is a powerfull force. That said I think we should not force or let anyone else force thier belief on anyone. With regards to children everyone has the right to do what they think is best for the child… within limits offcourse.
I think from an Islamic point of veiw this is not such a serious issue, it’s down to preference. Some people like to sit and eat on ground level, others like to be seated on chairs… now while eating in the former manner may be Sunnah there is no sin in doing the latter.
