World is progressing and we (Pakistanis) seem to be regressing. Contracting out huge construction projects or seeing so called developments happening on every highway, road, etc. does not mean we are getting somewhere but instead it might just mean we are getting into something! We borrow loans (local and international) to build our infrastructure but all that is left in the end is amount due to be paid back and the incomplete project. Last year Pakistan Railways faced criticism for purchasing cheap and faulty locomotives from China and thus resulting in accidents.
There is corruption in every sector of Pakistan and not only Pakistan holds the title of corruption but every other developing country does. Pakistan ranks 144th out of 158 countries in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index for 2005. On a broader canvas we can define corruption in many forms but every sector might have its own form and nature of corruption. But if we start looking at each sector it might be easier to tackle corruption and eliminate it. Looking at Transport sector which is one of the main institutions of the Government of Pakistan how can we identify corruption in it? Where do we identify corruption? What levels does it prevails?
Lets Discuss…
