a step up for me on the HR ladder :)

there's such a thing as a step up on the HR ladder? Are you now the sr. representative for handing out W2 and insurance forms? HR is bottom of the barrel in the corporate world sweetie.

^ Stu .. tell it to your compnay's VP HR then :) btw.. a diff kind of HRdilemma is looming, which will be very evident in 10-15 years.

SP- congrats on the new opportunity, sounds pretty good and seems like it is giving you the type of experience you were looking for i.e. more international and more strategic.

Thanks to all you well-wishers :flower1: I am definitely excited and yes, it is an opportunity that exposes me to the international/strategic angle with respect to this field. I have been going on many interviews since graduating this May so I have definitely been testing the waters. I have also been interviewing in Manhattan as well but the position I am taking (it happens to be right here in NJ, although like a 45 min. drive from my home) is perfect for me pretty much in every way…more $, better benefits, some travel, and most importantly, alot of growth potential.

congrats and good luck.. bus recruiting ke waqt guppies ko yaad rakhna..

cool .. good luck with your new job

Congrats! :k:

Congrats! and good luck

Mubarik :)

Congratulations! Going to China .... wow, very exciting stuff!!

^ Mehnaz, thanks :) I'm a mixture of nervousness and excitement right now. I have given notice here...which was taken with some surprise...they want me to stay my full two weeks until the 24th. I will start my new job on the 27th.

oh you go girl!

Can I send you my resume now? :D

^ Hehehe...you're not the only one asking to send their in :D

 Today was my first day at the new job. I am now a Corporate Staffing Manager for this publically traded manufacturing firm, with a staff under me. All in all, the day was exciting, eventful, and busy! I got my office (proud to say that this one is a beautiful large window office!), got my e-mail and voicemail set up, was given a laptop, and upon my arrival was given a mini party of sorts by the HR team with a sign that read “Welcome to (the co. name, my name)” The “party” arrangement was nothing special save for bagels, pastries and the like but nonetheless it made for a nice welcome; one that was much appreciated.

Tomorrow I will be taking along my pictures, plants, artwork to hang on the walls, and other little knicknacks to cozy up the office. I imagine I will start getting projects as of tomorrow speaking of which my boss explained that I should be looking forward to a business trip to the company’s Florida branch soon traveling with her and our corporate HR Manager to fill openings at the company’s newly acquisitioned subsidiary down there.

Anyhow, just wanted to drop in on ever-reliable GS to keep you guys posted. Hope everyone is doing well.

'Til later, ciao :flower2:

Very nice SP,
Good luck with the new job. Can you drop some pictures for my office too. I moved in about 2.5 yrs ago and still need to go buy some :hehe: And i’m right there in mid-town.

Mubarak ho, sweetpie, I hope it works out well for you, and that you climb the ladder even further. Insha'Allah. smile

Sweetpie, Thanks for sharing your experience with us, I think, we can learn some new things all along. :) I wonder, how - what were your feelings when starting your first day at the new job? - were you nervous about meeting your new colleagues, are you missing your old place, colleagues, are you keeping in touch with them?

You see, after being at one place for five whole years, ( 1 .. October it will be five) you kind of get attached to your workplace plus who wants the hassle of going to interviews, new atmosphere and the like, but I think the disadvantage, is that you get monoton, do the same things over again and it slows your personality - what I am saying is, its good to be able to do something else, experience new things.

Congratzzz!

Yeh Sadia, you're so right! I hated my job when I first started here, and the only reason I didn't apply elsewhere was because I didn't want to go through the whole rigmarole
of applying for jobs, going for interviews, getting used to the building, sussing out the team etc. I now really like this job and am really glad I didn't apply elsewhere.

Having said that, 5 years is way too long to be in the same job, in the same position. I think you should move after 3, or you get complacent

Wow Sp.Congrats on your own office. Now Im jealous. I knew I should have gone into business or medicine.
