One of my friend asked me a solution about a situation. I failed to give him any solution. I’m going to share with you guyz hope u can give a better solution or a way out. Here is the situation.
My friend worked in a company for three months (on probation) and he collected some amount and cheques from various companies, organizations etc., While calculation some amount was occured in access so he kept it a side. After completing three months he re-checked all accounts head and re-calcuated all amount but all calculation and accounts head tally and there is no difference anywhere. After three months the same statement checked by his superior and again there was no difference. Moreover, he don’t remember when and from which company/organization this amount was came so he can return nor any company/organization claimed for access deposit.
Now he’s worried about this access amount that what he should do with it. This amount doesn’t belongs to him so he don’t wanna keep it for himself. He wants to return the company but they refused to take it b’coz of their statement which tally.
What you have described is impossible ... I am familiar with accounts and if there is disagreement in cash and books then there is a problem with the books (despite checking there is a problem somewhere) - simple as that. I suggest they try to access the bank record itself to workout who sent the money. If it was a cheque then they can be retrieved up to a certain number of months.
If the deposit was made by cash then search for all hand written payment notes for that date and trace back to what activities were being done in that period and contact the payee's who were involved in the process. The chances are that whoever the money belongs to will come forward eventually ... so the wise thing to do would be to keep the money to the side or keep it in petty cash with an alert that this money belongs to someone and you are waiting for them to come forward.
I believe by keeping such amount, we’ll be questioned in ‘Akhirah’ and honestly speaking ‘I don’t think that money is halaal for us’ Moreover, I read if you keep such amount for three years (some say two years) and no1 claim for it than you can use it. Simple is that wanna know its solution from Islamic POV.
Nature of my job is also accounting and what I wrote at post#1 is actually happened with him otherwise i helped him out.
This money belongs to the company he works for. It should go in lost and found account and used by the company in whatever way they deem fit. Nobody gave him the money so he cannot use it anyway. The money was given to the company he works for therefore it belongs to that company even if it was given by mistake. Let the management of the company decide what they want to do with it.
