More than anything, this was a series of near-misses. Pakistan made a lot of progress, but a lot of landmarks and records were also narrowly missed, more by Pakistan than India. These are the ones I remember. Feel free to add more:
First Test
Younis’s 199.. misses his second consecutive double century against India by 1 run.
Afridi misses hitting six sixes in an over… manages four sixes off the first four balls off Harbhajan.
Afiridi misses the record for most runs in an over in Tests by 1 run.
Sehwag & Dravid miss the record for all time highest opening partnership of 413 by just 3 runs.
Second Test:
5. Pakistan narrowly misses the record of three consecutive 600+ scores in tests when they get out in Faisalabad for 588.
6. Pathan, and Laxman narrowly miss their centuries when they both fall at 90.
7. Shoaib Akhtar misses his first Test 50 by 3 runs.
8. Younis Khan misses on yet another double century when he’s out on 194.
9. Dhoni misses his 150 by 2 runs.
Third Test
10. Shoaib Akhtar misses yet another 50 by a few runs
11. Pakistan misses yet another 600 run mark by just 1 run (which leads to 14 below.
12. Razzaq misses his century when he gets out in the nineties.
13. Indian batting dearly misses the placid surfaces of Lahore and Faisalabad.
14. Pakistan misses inflicting India with their heaviest ever defeat by just 1 run (342 runs).
No, Pakistan beat India by 341 runs. India's biggest defeat is by 342 runs by Australia in 2004. If Pak had declared 600 instead of 599 then we would've had the biggest defeat record too.
As far as registering our name in the record books regarding defeating India by 342 runs, I blame that one run on Danish Kaneria. The guy just loves to see the ball roll-by.
llolll...danish and fielding arent the best best of freinds...it was said bout the england slow left armer tufnell that the best thing bout his bowlin is it stops him from fielding...could the same be said bout kaneria?? (atleat kaneria picks up wickets unlike tufnell)
