A recap and a New Start

Guys and Gals!

Before i begin with what i have to say, lets recap the happening of the last few months:

Nov. 2007: Emergency declared, SC Judges sacked.

Dec. 2007: BB is assassinated. The anger and resentment clouds the nation of Pakistan. Severe property loss suffered by many by angry mobs. Public revolts.

Feb 2008: Elections are held. The outcome, though obvious even before elections, become apparent post-ballots and PML(Q) which hailed as the prime party for a democratic Pakistan loses to its old rivals, the PPP and PML(N). MQM sustain its usual votebank in parts of Sindh. MMA share the same fate as PML(Q) and is sidelined by voters to be replaced by ANP.

March-June: Government is formed by PPP, PML(N), ANP, MQM, and PML(Q) sit in opposition.

August 2008: “President” Parvez Musharraf resigns to avoid facing impeachment at the hands of Parliament.

NOW

The elections were a testament to the public opinion of prior Govt. where due to its policies or the lack thereof. PPP and PML(N) along with ANP are voted in.

Zardari raises hopes to become the President. SC Judges still sit as spectators watching what unfolds as months of wait before they’ll be reinstated.

We, on the other hand, go on blaming each other day in and day out. Almost all of us are genuine at-heart to Pakistan. No doubt about that. The very reason why we debate/discuss so passionately is for the reason that we want to see Pakistan prosper. But, at time the atmosphere can become very tense.

This is what i’m saying guys/gals, we should all set aside our differences and think alike for the betterment of Pakistan. What’s done is done. Musharraf is gone. He may or may not return later as a politician, that’s yet to be seen. Zardari looks on at the throne of Presidency.

We need to put our heads together and for once strategize and share ideas on what should be done, what can be done. Lets stop all the sillyness and name-calling of any politician. Face it! we’re not in a position to influence their thinking or divert their agenda. What we, the youth and hopefuls for a better Pakistan can do is offer our perspective and discuss it. The inner fued and hatred displayed among each other is the weakest point of our unity and it indeed does keep us from thinking positively.

This is what i propose to you all. For a while, lets talk constructively. Lets all discuss what the future of Pakistan should now be. What can and cannot happen. What may or may not happen.

Who knows one day, one of us maybe in a position to lead the nation (you never know) and if any of our discussions and debates here can influence and bring the best in us, it will be as if we, as a forum and a virtual community contributed towards the brighter future of Pakistan.

My humble request to you all, is to ease on the friction and think focally. No name-calling, no mud-slinging. We should all portray to get along. Lets see if we can manage to do just that atleast thru Pakistan Defense week.

good post, let results speak and that is why we need to hold our politicians accountable. so focus really pught to be on govt plans and policies. How sensible they are and then how well they do to execute upon them.

law and order, militancy, education (primary, university, sorting out madrassas) etc, health, infratstructure (power, transport, telecom, water etc ),

It looks like there is not much information available on it, people argue on the same issues over and over.

It would be interesting to see the people here use the energies in undestanding, evaluating, discussing and tracking these type of issues. But that takes more..

Its all good, but criticism should not stop, calling spade a spade should continue, however we should not compare ills of current govt with previous govt and say “oh they did that too”.

Stopping of name-calling should not be limited to “politicians” alone, it should be extended to all leadership (including army) as well as past leaders.

Point of “discussions” here is not to “influence” politicians, rather spreading awareness, hopefully it will spread to print and electronic media and someone will be able to do the right thing.

As Rebel X said we should be able to hold politicians accountable, we need to raise voice against the wrongs, may be can call the “live” TV program where they discuss politics, current affairs, write to print media about the wrongs etc. We have to participate in the progress, if we want to progress that is, otherwise we’ll continue to blame the “leadership”.
