dunno bout US, but i know over here a quota of the jobs in big firms is reserved for females and Aboriginies and Torres Straight Island people..
infact its the same sort of thing at unis.. (especially in the engineering department)

It's called Affirmative Action. It doesnt'a pply just to blacks, it's all minorities, including women as well..
