No we are not.
Its a misconeception that drinking a lot of water helps kidneys, liver or heart, it does not and studies have shown it.
Now people who claim that there skin appears better when they drink a lot of water it could for one of these reasons
1- They are convinced that water makes skin healthy and thus when they drink they just feel their skin is better, "placebo effect"
2- If you drink too much water, your face will become puffy, some of teh wrinkes may smoothen out, colour of skin will become less dark and hence the feeling that skin looks better.
3- Bottled water in some places has been found to contain chemicals that mimic female sex hormones, estrogen, which increases water content of skin and gives a freshened up look.
then why all the media etc are telling us to drink 2lr water all the time? are they bonkers mad or we are bonkers mad to be drinking so much water.
i mean i am always running to loo bcoz of all the water i drink. i do not understand!
i actually have seen improvement that my skin is better and clearer from drinking water.
Re: a question to qualified doctors........
Think of body as a tree, it needs water to look healthy or it will be gone. The first signs of dying will be outside (skin).
Re: a question to qualified doctors........
okay yaar that is very intelligent yaar
true i am like a tree. thanks yaar.
Re: a question to qualified doctors........
1- There is no set amount of water need by a person. *It varies *(even in in healthy people) with activity, exercise, environmental and body temperature, consumption of food and other kind of drinks such a cola beverages, smoking and even body size.
2- With the same token, 470 ml is too low (less than two glasses a day assuming one glass is 250 ml) for a good size adult. Perhaps we need to differentiate between consumption required and actual body needs.
Those people who are placed on water restriction due to some diseases, even up to 800cc or a liter a day are psychologically miserable.
3-If one is otherwise healthy then it does not matter how much water is consumed.
All the extra water will just go out of body. A good kidney will dump it anyway. Off course it will also dump salt with it since salt/minerals follow water. (Stay close to bathroom if you do. :-)
Water poisoning can only happen if someone drinks liters of water in very short time. Headache, blurred vision, shortness of breath are common with that.
4- A correct amount of water consumption based on body needs does keep skin healthy, moist, with less wrinkles, heart, kidneys and blood viscosity.
Also a good amount of blood acidity/alkalinity (pH balance) depends on water balance. Dehydration causes high pH of blood (contraction alkalosis)
5- Thirst is really a good way to keep body water balance but we do tend to suppress thirst if we are busy or even have too much thirst in stress or anxiety or when someone takes certain meds. like benedryl (dry mouth). So thirst is not related to body water needs 100 percent.

good information

1-As i pointed out, 470 is the minimum amount required not the "recomended amount". There is no sound scientific study to recomend a specific amount in normal circumstances.
2- Water restriction is not for healthy people, its done in certain cases where kidney avidly absorb water from the urine, and water ingested in is not being excreted.
3- If your healthy, then even if you have suppressed thirst for few hours when busy, you will make up for it later, it will not change the total fluid intake during 24 hours.
Re: a question to qualified doctors........
^ Thanks icono....that was very helpful.
Not only its an urban myth, its also crept into mentality of some doctors.
I have been teaching it to my residents recently, the minimum amount of water required for body is 470 ml, that is less than half a litre, most humans take 1.5 L per day which is three times the minimum requirement.
Thirst has served humanity for millions of years, trust it.
Yeah I can agree. He might be right. As I myself drink very less sometimes don't drink at all for whole day.
Re: a question to qualified doctors........
To make your dark color of skin gone for sure is use ubtan on daily basis for your face washing. For sometimes rub on the face and wash. Azmooda nuskha.
Also use johnson baby lotion daily or any lotion.
More then a litre water make me vomit too.
Re: a question to qualified doctors…

and some times more than a litre and i cant drink much water and I litrally force my self to have at least 4-5 glasses a day.
