If ever one wanted to read the sleazy side of Pakistans ruling class..you should read Masood Hasans article on Angelina Jolies trip to Pakistan. It’s titled The Pits Indeed, so while Ms Jolie wished to focus on the earthquake victims..Pakistans elite had other things on their mind..like making her attend a birthday party:
While all this tugging and pulling over Ms Jolie was going on in Peshawar and its environs with high pressure on Ms Jolie to make ‘courtesy calls’ on the high and mighty who perhaps would eventually settle for her autograph or a snap with her, over here in Punjab and our sleepy capital, more VIPs were lining up to have Ms Jolie in their midst. From reports doing the rounds, the Punjab chief minister was unable to understand why Ms Jolie was not having lunch with him in Lahore. There were offers of jetting her to and fro that were made in great generosity.
The Pakistani 'elite' ie politicians, wealthy class are an incomprehensible specie of their own...and to think most middle class Pakistanis strive to be just like them.
Well although I've been recently accused of desi-bashing I do have to point out that this type of thing isnt limited to Pakistanis....I mean, when its Angelina you're talking about, ANY male politician from ANY country is going to do all sorts of things to meet her yeah?
even so mo3..there are limits..what people may think about a certain someone should not effect their job to such an extreme extent especially when earthquake victims in their hundreds of thousands are the real issue..and credit were credit is due angelina has done some positive work as the goodwill ambassador.
Now this is Meera's dream! Somebody like Meera or Reema would take full advantage of this sort of treatment. A similar sort of thing is Bollywood stars being paid to make 'appearances' at weddings. I don't understand that. Does that really happen? I have to give Jolie credit.
