Those who wear a headscarf, would you ever take it off for health and safety reasons?
I’ve done so in the past.

Re: A question for the ladies
Hmmmmmmmmm. Depends on how extreme the safety issue, and whether I should just wear a swimming cap instead :/
Re: A question for the ladies
describe health reasons. I can understand the safety reasons though
Re: A question for the ladies
Yea, what kind of health and safety reasons? ![]()
Re: A question for the ladies
Actually I have seen ppl taking it because of health issue ![]()
Re: A question for the ladies
Well I worked on a pharmaceutical plant a couple of years ago and I was often required to go into what’s called a Pures Area that is required to be absolutely 200% contamination free. Nothing from the outside is allowed into the room, including your clothes, and we’re required to dress up like this when going in:
Now, no one told me to take off the hijab, as long as I was covered from head to toe with the overalls, they were perfectly okay with that. So I tried this a few times and used to find it difficult to breathe inside the enclosed area because there are no windows or vents in there. I used to feel the scarf tightening around my neck suffocating me lol. One day I came out feeling dizzy, I kid you not. From then on, I decided to take off the hijab before putting on the PPE. That made a huge difference. I could stay in there for more than 30 minutes without feeling nauseous.
I didn’t feel too bad about it though because (a) I’m sure Allah taala understood and (b) I was mostly on my own when putting on the PPE.
Re: A question for the ladies
^ the outfit itself offers 100% parda. You dont need hijab on top of that. :D
Re: A question for the ladies
Well with something like that, your hair's still covered, so I wouldn't mind.
If it was an issue like potential fire hazards or something, then yes, I spose I would.
I remember watching a documentary once where there was a Muslim woman who wouldn't let any of the non-Muslim men touch her (understandably). When one said to her if she would let him catch her if she fell of a mountain (they were climbing hills and stuff), she said no she wouldn't want him to touch her still and would rather just fall :/
I guess you gotta draw your own lines.
Re: A question for the ladies
I would classify it as a safety reason and I can understand where you are coming from. Although I don’t know what I would do in that situation. I guess I would take it off for things like getting some sort of test or x-ray done which required me to remove the scarf.
Re: A question for the ladies
Yes but taking it off in front of others was a little weird... especially during audits, there would be like 3 or 4 others with me who had never seen me without a hijab and there I was taking it off.. that was awkward but had to to what I had to do..
Re: A question for the ladies
^Hah, my work lot tell me to take it off aaallll the time, apparently it's a 'waste' to hide my hair away :D

Waoh, that's a bit extreme.
But yeah everyone has their own boundaries. For example, there was this thread where some women said they wouldn't shake hands with a man. I, on the other hand, don't think twice about it. But it's totally understandable if someone else doesn't like it.

Yeah I'm sure you get to hear "It's JUST HAIR!!" quite a bit! :D

I try not to either but I still do especially in interview like situations. I agree though maddy's story is a bit extreme.

This reminds me of the news story from a few years back...where a girls school burned and they couldn't be rescued because they werent' wearing their abayas..... now thats pretty sad. if someone wants to die, whatever..but why force that on anyone else. Terrible.
Re: A question for the ladies
I wonder if I’ll be giving birth with a hijab on
Having seen my sister go through labour pains, I doubt I’d care!
Re: A question for the ladies
umm probably not lol During labour a woman is exposed anyways.
Re: A question for the ladies
My palestinian friend found an all female natural midwife center here in our city where she goes for her prenatal care/deliveries. She refused to take her hijab off in a traditional hospital/labor room so the second/ third time around she did a lot research until she found this suitable option.
