a question for people discussing sectarian differences

Do you think that the discussions have improved compared to past?
Do you think that you are able to learn/educate and discuss
Have the discussions helped you in understanding the other side.

my answer to all 3 is Yes. there is a lot to be desired, but i think the people involved and the approach of majority of people this time around has been much better than the past.

Dunno if we are growing up, and learning to disagree or we have better people posting now.

whatchu think?

What hadith is that from? References please.

Jazakallah Khair

After banning few 'idiots', and bringing Faisal back to this section...

lol

I thinks some of the posters are really good. I love to read their insight into things, and although the subject matter is usually the same but sometimes you get to see things from a different point of view.

HHP

When i first started posting on GS i thought this could be such aninvaluable tool to learn from others and to be able to discuss, based on the type of inter faith and inter sect fights that broke out I had stopped posting in religion forum for ages.

I think that people can carry good discussions here as long as some of teh trouble makers are contained. Luckily I have not seen too much of that around lately.

Hm. I've only recently started posting on sectarian diffs so i guess i dont really know what the legacy is. but yeah, interaction should be encouraged, its when you put a lid on things and say tum yahan hum wahan that people start to demonise the other and misunderstandings, intolerance, etc all breed.

  • I don't know if they improved or not but certainly have changed a lot.
  • Learned, oh yes, it was through Gupshup that I learned anything about Ahmadis. But I don’t know if I’ll be able to discuss them.
  • Not at all cuz honestly speaking, its just way too much for me to grasp, sectarian threads get very complicated by the sixth/seventh post, and I literally know nothing about the sects of Islam, so I sort of get lost in the midst.
