A question bout Masjid

aslamalekum…

I have a question an i would liek ur help…

We are making a new masjid in our community and last week we were asked to vote whether to keep the masjitd or sell it to one of the brother of the community. On the weekend my hubby asked a mufti who was visitin a masjid in Providence whether if is allowed to sell the masjid and he said no..

can anyone help…

If you are selling old masjid for a new masjid then why not. Many times molvis are not told complete picture or they stick to one or two fatwas they are aware of and issue their decree. I have come across such issues before and have heard all sorts of opinion. Its okay to sell it.

if it is a proper masjid it shud remain a masjid....
u cant sell it or use it for other purposes....
thats what i know....

why did u need a new mosque anyway????

We had the same problem.

A few people use to pray at a house used as a Mosque and Islamic studies centre for the kids but lately Alhamdulillah we’ve had more of the youth in our community turning towards Islam so we’ve had to buy a small Chapel and convert it into a Mosque. Even that is getting too small so they are thinking of extending it.

The Molvi’s said it’s alright to sell the old Mosque/House and use it as a house or whatever because it wasn’t originally built to be a Mosque.

thankyou all for ur replies..

actually the community as grown and it is difficlt during the month of ramzan because there is no room so some ppl of the comunity offered to build a new masjid which will be connected to a islamic school as well..
