I think we need to first find out the rules of being in the bathroom (Islamically).
One rule comes to mind (after reading THEIR answer) that while getting rid of najasat one should not even talk and we know here in west its a norm to read some magazine or something while answering nature call. Now to me its hard to imagine while cleaning one would read Kalimah cuz being in a napaak place saying Prophent Muhammad (PBUH) name is out of context. So I won't even think about it thats all I can say about that part. I guess they need to read the translation of Kalimah from Arabic to easy urdu (asan urdu) or maybe asan english.
Personally I would not read Kalimah cuz simply its not appropriate to read such respected words\phrase at a place like bathroom. As I said I used to read Kalimah only while washing hands but not any more since I find its not correct and make sence to me.
