the divorce is valid, to the best of my knowledge....
Umar (ra) refused to give the benefit of doubt to a drunk man who divorced his wife, so i doubt how anger cud be accepted as a valid excuse....
Its difficult to give an exact advice based on such sketchy information. The person should consults a scholar of his choice for advice. There are different rules for different versions of Islam. I believe many sunni scholars would consider it a valid divorce. Shia scholars, on the other hand have a different way of counting the three divorces. Whether divorce is given in anger or not, is probably irrelevant.
