A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

You have a problem with my screen name too. My faith (or lack of it) is my issue, not yours. Mind your own faith please.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Why is everyone so angry today. It was a humble statement. Your name sounded christian so I assume that you are (without any disrespect intended) . Christian is a faith too. If you are Muslim then I will answer your questions, otherwise I am honest that it will not make sense to you.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Ya, I am muslim. and I don't think you should be "disturbed" by Dr. Abdus Salam's personal faith.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Sorry dude. I am sure you realize that me and you are not in the business of certifying faiths. no one is.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Must Pakistans obsessive Islamic zeal coem at the expense of her own citizens?
Abdus Salam was a scientist, he was a Pakistani, and thats all that should matter..
Keep the relgion out of it. What have most of the great scholars of the Islamic ummah done for Pakistan, besides drag it through the mud? We are so jahil that we are willing to name kid after murderers like Osama Bin Laden, but naming a small street after Abdus Salam would be welcomed with protests and god knows what.

Dr. AQ Khan hardly counts as a great scientist... And he is in no way in the same league of Abdus Salam..
AQ Khan almost certainly smuggled much of Pakistans Nuclear technology.
Abdus Salams contribution to Science was something original and indispensible.
His contribution was real and substantial... He is cited in every single college level Physics text book, except perhaps those printed in Pakistan.

Honestly, in country thats constantly maligned as a the hub Islamic fanaticsm, poverty, backwardness, and coruption, its mind boggling that you should renounce one of the few in the country who truly accomplished somthing, based on nothing more thne something as shallow as religion!

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

PaKpatriot1- Could'nt agree more. AQ not a scientist, his basic degree is matellergy. An engineer who went into management because of good PR skills.

Comparing him with a theoratical Physics genious like Salam, is like comparing apples and oranges.

tariqlkhan- I was'nt as offended as u r, my friend. I dont like when people call me someone, which I know I am not. You call Salam a great scientist, thanks but he does nt need a certificate from you. He has a noble prize to show for that. You keep on judging his personal faith, even though you agreed u and me are not in the business of certifying faiths. Seriously, you need to understand true meaning of tolerance.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Robert, did I answer your previuos posting. From this post of yours, it sounds like I did but I dont see that.

In that I tried to explain your query regarding "why am I disturb with the faith of Dr. Salam". I dont want to repost it if you already read it and it somehow got deleted.

I was not giving Dr. Salam a certificate. You were praising him also. Does he need your certificate?

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Just ignore this Tariq Khan dude Robert!

BTW Dr. Salam was appreciated by Pakistan in many ways. Here is a quotation from Wiki.

***Salam returned to Pakistan in 1951 to teach Mathematics at the Government College, Lahore. In 1952, he became the Head of the Mathematics Department of the Punjab University. He had returned to Pakistan with the intention of founding a school of research, but soon found that this was impossible. In 1954, Abdus Salam left Pakistan for a lecturership at Cambridge, although he visited Pakistan from time to time as an adviser on science policy to the Government of Pakistan. His work for Pakistan was far-reaching and influential. He was a member of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, a member of the Scientific Commission of Pakistan, Founder Chairman of Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission and Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of Pakistan from 1961 to 1974.

*In 1998, the Government of Pakistan issued a stamp carrying his portrait.

So even if we have some Mullahs saying strange stuff about his faith. He worked on and off in Pakistan from 1951 to 1974. He would not be in the country for 23 years had he felt unappreciated. He was the founder or chief architect of many Pak institutions. As we all know he was the chief adviser to big man Prez of Pakistan. So leave these conspiracies theories to loonies that he somehow didn’t get a good place in Pakistan.

I am not sure about his wishes about personal burial space. Most Ahmadis do want to be buried in Rabwa in solemn and quite way. May be we can assume he wanted to be buried there.

As it is too late to accord him a larger tomb in Islamabad, we should still name a larger research institution in his name.

Without delving into some conspiracy theories, we can all start a petition to the Pak government to name one of the buildings after him.

Or better yet, Mr. Robert start collecting funds to build a new research center in his name. Make sure you cook halwa as part of the opening ceremonies. Mr. Khan will be there, I kid you not!

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Why, Sir, did you asked Robert to ignore me ? Am I not making any sense?

You know someone said that if both of us are agreed on everything then one of us is not required.

You want other's point of view also or do you want everyone to sing your tune?

I like Halwa. You are right. I will be there :-)

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Along the way of loving Dr. Salaam you made comments you should not have.

While Dr. Salaam is respectable person so is AQ Khan.

While one did something which made him earn nobel prize, other did something which enabled his country to be strong. Besides AQ Khan was and is a scientist who was acknowledged by everyone in past.

When it comes to making one's country strong and defend its population............citizen(s) of any country around the world would do what AQ khan did. Before you say anymore........it does not matter what he did afterward.....alleged or confirmed. His contribution to the country must be recognized and respected.

Please be realistic.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Im not "loving" Abdus Salam... Im trying to get others to appreciate the accomplishments of a true scientist.
The problem is that Pakistan tends to glorify Khan, while they forget Abdus Salam even though his accomplishment was far greater.

AQ Khan didnt create Pakistans Nuclear bomb, he just smuggled what we needed to make it... And then he organized the program...
This is a far cry from actually creating somthing new.

The Problem here is that in an ideal country, AQ Khan would be remembered for his skills as a spy, while Abdus Salam would be remembered as Scientist.

In Pakistan, AQ Khan is glorified to the point where saying anything about him is offensive to people like you, while Abdus Salam, who whether you like it or not, TRULY created something the entire WORLD could benefit from, is looked down on as that Qadiani who got that pointless award...
People are so ridiculous that they have even gone to the extent of denouncing the award itself so as to take the steam out of Salams achievment.

Abdus Salam is remebered around the world, AQ Khan not so much. Its truly sad that the worth of a person accomplishments in Pakistan is gauged by how much "power" they give through their discovery. I mean is the this the level to which Pakistanis have sunk? Knowledge is forsaken for power?
You should see how Egypt treats its Noble Laureate, Dr. Zuwhail... Nothing of the sort in Pakistan.
And im sorry if you dont like to hear it... But many Pakistanis are to obsessed with their religion, to the point where it clouds their sense of justice and humanity. If it werent for Pakistans obsessive Islamic zeal, Salam would be remembered as a great scinetist and a great Pakistani instead of reviled as a brilliant "KAFIR"!
Do you honeslty think that if AQ Khan were an Ahmadi he would have gotten the same respect he does?

I respect AQ Khan for helping get the Nuclear bomb for Pakistan, but he is in no way comparable to Salam... Not even close!

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

The University he tried to found in Pakistan, never materialized, and was instead set up in Italy... Today many sctudents go there from the developing wolrd. Imagine if such an institute were setup in Pakistan.
This is what I was talking about, Pakistans misplaced Islamic zeal.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Please read your post and even you will agree that you are too emotional for pushing forward the case for Dr. Salaam.

I personally do not care if he was Qadyani/Ahmedi or whatever. He did something which made him earn Nobel prize. (Many people do not even care if someone gets nobel prize or knighthood)

There is no comparison and will never be a comparison between two figures in question what they did or what they achieved. Bot had different game ans ground to play on.

Just to be the devil's advocate and break your bubble or give you cold shower............which I do not like to do but to bring you back to reality
let me say........

No one saw Pakistan on high level of honor in the world (which you seem to care a lot) by Dr. Salaam getting the noble prize.

But......

Pakistan enemies will think twice before commiting the act of aggression against Pakistan since AQ Khan did what he did. Even you cannot deny it.
I hope and wish.

Hope my point is got across and no disrespect to anyone in question.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Forget about the musjid.......they're planning to make an "Itwaar Bazar" there.
May be govt can name it " Haroon Shaheed Itwaar Bazar" if you wish.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Im not ganna continue this debate.. Your entitled to your oppinion, I respect you for it... I think you have a good understanding of where I stand.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Off topic but,

They already have itwar (previously juma) bazaar there for decades....

what they will make apart from the mosque on the encroached land, as per previous plans that Gen Javed Ashraf Qazi (Edu Min) revealed yesterday on Geo with Hamid Mir that they'd make an auditorium, reconstruct the library, and a writers' resource center, as per plans prior to encroachment...hope it's done...

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Now they can build anything there except a mosque or madrassah.

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

How about another brothel:)?

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate

Re: A nice tribute to Pakistans only Nobel Laureate
