So just a few minutes ago, I get this strange phonecall from a friend I know since the past year but don’t meet that often.
Her: I need to meet you as soon as possible to discuss a matter of utmost urgency.
Me: could you tell me over the phone?
Her: no, not on the phone.
Me: At least give me an idea so I can prioritize accordingly on my calendar.
Her: I said, no, Can we meet today at 2 pm at the public library?
Me: If it’ll take just a few minutes then fine becasue I have to pick up kid from school soon after that. Otherwise Thursday will be better.
Her: Then can we meet tomorrow at 2. Same place?
Me: Fine.
Her. Don’t tell anybody!
I’m a little nervous, a little confused. Why would she choose me to talk about an unknown matter in such a secretive way? Why not come to my home? Why not over the phone???
if you, being her friend, don’t know the answer to those questions, how do you expect us to know the answer. Maybe she thinks you are a person she can trust
But she certainly had no idea that you would open a thread to tell the whole world :D
Yeah, I'm sorry I'm doing that, but I really want to get some ideas where this may be heading. Plus, I am not discussing the actual issue am I? I won't be.
the future of the world must depend on solving this problem? wots with everyone going on and on about global warming… there are more important things in the world
Jeez! Why can't you talk over the phone about this stuff? And aren't phones safe???
I have been victim of this, they are told not to discuss it over the phone , to be as secretive as you can be before the first meeting. But now I can smell it from the way they talk. I hope I have seen it all.

Could be. But then why at the library and not my home?
nah she wouldn't talk to you about bombing your house... it'll be some other place so no need to worry
