I'm heavily inclined to think this is all a farce. I watched her video, and while I hate to make such snap judgments-- I think she's full of it.
The only qualm I have with this situation is that 1. It makes Muslims look bad, and 2. Regardless of who is at fault (the girl for lying or the parents for actually threatening her life), one of them is truly suffering.
And for Muslims who get their panties in a twist and threaten or wish harm against her for this only reinforce the negative image of Islam, and further twist and distort the real teachings of the faith.
For shame.

It's her choice if she chose Christianity over Islam but from reading this article it doesn't seem like her parents were going to kill her. They're not really religious themselves so why would they do such an outrageous thing? Oh well, it's still her choice...

I think it's some late teenage phase. I mean the parents did allow her to be a cheerleader. If they were so strict I doubt they would let her do that. Seems like teenage drama. But yes, so she converted, big deal! Those Lorenzes seem like idiots that just did this for the drama, else they wouldn't have called reporters.

No I never said that. You're misconstruing my words. My point was, if a family can let their daughter dance around in a miniskirt and not complain or forbid her from doing it, then why would they disapprove of her becoming a Christian. I come from a very liberal family but let me tell you, if I even think of dancing around in a cheerleader uniform, my parents would not think twice and send me back to Pakistan. Granted changing religion is pretty extreme but I doubt they threatened her life over it. They did however threaten to send her back to Sri Lanka, which in my opinion would scare anyone used to the "freedom" of the States. They're saying they want her back, it's their only daughter. It's quite obvious those idiots she met on Facebook have really left their mark on her. And it seems pretty clear what the point of this publicity is, to anger the Christians and portray the Muslim parents as abusive parents.

Yeah exactly. It's her choice and frankly, converts Islam ka kuch nahi bigaarh saktay.
It is all as Allah wills it. This girl just didn't have Allah's guidance with her anymore. It's not like she's going to become some kind of beacon of light for Christianity. The media just brings up things like this because it wants to portray Islam in a negative light. No one gets their "panties in a knot" when Christians convert to Islam because the media doesn't want to show that. And of course there are many many non-Muslims who continue to get Allah's guidance and convert to Islam.. to be honest, they are much more prominent figures of Islam than this girl or any "ex-Muslim" can ever be for Christianity or any other religion.
Cases in point:
Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) He opened Muslim schools in Britain and has financially helped thousands of Muslims all over the world.
Marmaduke Pickthall - British convert who translated the Quran into English back in the day.
Hamza Yusuf.... and the list goes on and on..

its not about the number of muslims...but how true to their faith are they are how much they adhere to it....
