Can mullahs like this lead Pakistan (anyone) to enlightenment?
They have made a mockery of Islam. These people think it is Islamic to punish children for disobeying. But no one drew the line about what the punishment should be.

VEHARI: A madrassa teacher on Thursday allegedly tortured a seven-year-old blind student to death for not learning his lessons.

Qari Ziauddin, who teaches at the madrassah owned by Qari Abdul Latif, tortured Muhammad Atif, the son of Fayyaz Ahmad, by hanging him from the ceiling fan upside down. The blind child was unfastened after he fainted.

Instead to taking him to a hospital, the teacher allegedly kept Atif in his (teacher’s) room until he died.

Vehari Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Muhammad Akram Niazi, on receiving the information, sent the body of the student to a mortuary for an autopsy, and sent police teams to arrest the fugitive killer. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has ordered an inquiry into Atif’s death. app

I saw the body of the poor kid on GEO. Pretty sad and disgusting, the mullah now in custody should be dealt with in accordance with the law. we dont need idiots like these in our society.

He does not deserve the titles Maulvi/Mullah/Maulana or anything that gives him any type of honor. Education is required to learn first, then preach next. Those titles belong to people who practice themselves and then teach the true essence of Islam.

Too disheartened and disgusted to say anything, except that he should be dealt with all that is possible in the prescribed law.

Prayer is not compulsory on a child until the age of 10 by a general rule. If prayer, the most important aspect of Islam is prescribed in such a way for children, then what/who gave this guy the right to raise even a finger on the disabled child.

Some maulvis are disgusting. I remember how a 30 year old maulvi wanted to marry our neighbour's servant's 12 year old daughter. Yuck!

I once came across a Muslims scholar's book's manuscript who proved from Hadees and Quran that any kind of corporal punishment to kids was not allowed. This person did not want to publish that book from Pakistan for fear of persecution. I do not know if this book got published or not.

**A student of a religious seminary in Pakistan’s Punjab province has died after he was punished by his teacher, police say. **

Atif, seven, was hung upside down from a ceiling fan by Maulvi Ziauddin for not memorising his Koran lessons, his fellow students told the police.

Atif’s condition deteriorated quickly and he died in the teacher’s room. Maulvi Ziauddin has been arrested.

Human rights organisation say Pakistani children are often exposed to abuse.

The students told the police in the town of Vehari that Atif was punished on Wednesday by Maulvi Ziauddin who left him hanging from the fan for some time.

The son of a farm labourer, Atif lived in the seminary with about 20 other students, including a cousin.

“When his cousin did not see Atif on Wednesday night or the next morning, he informed the family,” a Vehari police official, Mohammad Afzal, told the BBC.

“Members of the family found Atif’s body in Maulvi Ziauddin’s room, but the cleric himself was missing,” he said.

He was arrested from a nearby village later on Thursday.

The police said they would file formal charges after an autopsy report is issued by the local hospital.

In a report published in January, Lawyers for Human Rights and Legal Aid (LHRLA) - an organisation which monitors and compiles cases of child abuse and kidnapping - said children in Pakistan were increasingly exposed to abuse, kidnapping and violence.

The number of reported cases involving children has more than doubled from 617 in 2006 to 1,595 last year, the report said.
It blamed poor law enforcement and old social attitudes towards children’s rights as some of the reasons for the problem.
