A Most Beautiful hadith Among All The Beautiful Ahadith

Re: A Most Beautiful hadith Among All The Beautiful Ahadith

very nice thanks !

Re: A Most Beautiful hadith Among All The Beautiful Ahadith

MQ, rather a strange reply. let me analyse it and mention my concerns:

>>>You cant take it at face value nor add tons of your own details to it.<<<

okee, so one shud take the text as it is, and not add any external details, constraints…but subsequently you do the same: >>>>so assuming you got ill by natural means <<<< AND >>>>it is haram to harm yourself in any manner<<<< :konfused: care to explain why you are allowed to assume something about the interpretation of this hadith and I am not?

with respect to the second part - you are not allowed to harm yourself in any manner- this would mean that every french fry u eat, every drop of coca cola you drink, every molecule of salt you ingest extra is actually harming yourself, cuz they all cause cardiovascular disease…wat about that? shud we now all start having astronautic meals? Cuz they are present and available if needed. Clearly, you will answer NO to these questions, and you will add that one also has to take into account practicality…well the same practicality applies to the ‘extremes’ i mentioned, because they aren’t extremes, suicide and mental illnesses are one the main causes of death and morbidity in middle aged people.

Re: A Most Beautiful hadith Among All The Beautiful Ahadith

^ yes, NeSCio, please start taking astronaut meals to save yourself... then go have that mental illness looked at that you mentioned in the last lines

let's not put the cart before the horse... we haven't even established whether the hadith is authentic according to the science of tradition... secondly, we can't be sure of the accuracy of the translation... certainly, i'd like to see how the line "What will save me from sins?" and the subsequent answer read in the original...

shall we do this first before NASA agent NeSCio sends everyone into orbit?

Re: A Most Beautiful hadith Among All The Beautiful Ahadith

In hadees we find rule, guidance and advice. The hadees in this thread as anyone can judge is ‘advice’ and ‘guidance’ from holy prophet.

I don’t get it ^

You have rightly pointed out. :k:
For illness, passive stance is required because in islam, active stance is completely prohibited, you may want the deduce passive stance from this question and answer but before jumping to any conclusion we need to know a very well known “Rule”

Causing harm to oneself, is completely forbidden in Islam

And going inline with this there are number of Ahadees which talk about illness is from Allah and it reduces sins

*Volume 7, Book 70, Number 545: *

Narrated Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri and Abu Huraira:

**The Prophet said, “No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” **

Volume 7, Book 70, Number 565:
Narrated 'Abdullah:

**I visited the Prophet during his illness and touched him while he was having a fever. I said to him, “You have a high fever; is it because you will get a double reward?” He said, “Yes. No Muslim is afflicted with any harm, but that his sins will be annulled as the leave of a tree fall down.” **

RE-DEATH

*Volume 7, Book 70, Number 575: *

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

**The Prophet said, "None of you should wish for death because of a calamity befalling him; but if he has to wish for death, he should say: "O Allah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and let me die if death is better for me.’ " **

Re: A Most Beautiful hadith Among All The Beautiful Ahadith

^ good reply... but there's nothing in there about astronaut meals so it might just all go over NeSCio's head ;-)

Re: A Most Beautiful hadith Among All The Beautiful Ahadith

and how hard is this to understand the bold part for those who are ready to strictly impose hadeeth on others no matter what:) ?

I think I didn’t elaborate well enough in my post. Wat I wanted to say is that when Im suffering from a common cold, I don’t think that will stop me from commiting a sin. in other words, with respect to the potential of sinning, it’s the same as when you are healthy.

thanks for the informative link and the quotations :k: Here, I will also voice my concern as that I have done in reply to MQ. Perhaps, you can have a look at those too.

Health, illness and sin - to be merged in Rel

I dont know… May be its people like me never experiece such kind of “thouroghly refreshing” common cold …

Generally people, during illness only think about some kind of releif and not doing extracurricular ‘sin’

– less energy to talk so —>Less backbiting. less lie , l
—more pain —>less anger, more prayers

Don’t know, it looks logical to me, may be you have different experiece. May be your common cold is not so common in my area :rotato:

These concerns are thorougly answered in my last reply. And franklly the Islamic POV on topic (inflicting harm or illness ) is quite clear in view of Quranic and hadees ref.

Re: A Most Beautiful hadith Among All The Beautiful Ahadith

Wat I want to make clear is that there is not a clear distinction between ‘health’ and ‘disease’. It’s a spectrum, wat is disease for one, is not disease for another…it also varies from culture to culture. Heck, it even varies from one person at point in time to another. So saying that you are not allowed to harm yourself in any way anytime, cannot be held for long, because that changes all the time.
That brings me to my second point, numerous things that we do and that seem normal to us are actually harmful to us in the long run. I gave examples of salt, fat etc…how does this statement of not harming yourself in any way deal with that? Such harm is preventable (another example I gave of astronautical food), so how come we keep on ingesting salt and fat and harming ourself, whereas we should actually adhere to that hadeeth and in order to not to harm ourselves we should be having astronautical food?

Re: A Most Beautiful hadith Among All The Beautiful Ahadith

I think at religious level it is clear, and the discussion is going into philosophical heights...

let us discuss it further in S&P :)
