A Marinading Matter

A friend of mine wants to know if it is okay to take previously frozen chicken…defrost and apply marinade to it…and then store in the freezer for later use? Has anybody done that and does it affect taste, texture, or are there any health concerns?

I did Google it and I read that you can do it with chicken that wasn’t frozen before. Any insights?

Re: A Marinading Matter

as far as I know , its not good to refreeze meat after defrosting. So I typically add a marinade when I first buy the meat and then freeze it. She could however marinade the chicken and put it in the fridge for a maximum of 24 hours before cooking.

Re: A Marinading Matter

I think it would be ok if she is just re-freezing once, but the poster above’s suggestion is a better idea.

Re: A Marinading Matter

She would just be refreezing once and I suggested placing the chicken in the fridge…but she wants to make in advance to use at much later points and not just after 24 hours. She has two toddlers and is pretty preggers with her third, so wants to make cooking easier.

Re: A Marinading Matter

Refreezing is never recommended and its unhealthy too. However in case of some emergency or dire need one may do but try not to refreeze one deforosted. However marinated chicken can be preserved in freezer
