It’s near PIDC office, the blast was so huge that it was heard in half the city. By far GEO is reporting many casualties.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has accepted the responsibility. Geo is reporting 15 ppl died and 40 injured.

May Allah swt have mercy on the dead and on the living people of Karachi and all of Pakitan.
One eye witness who had to rescue his family out of the rubble said, there was firing for at least 1/2 hour and then a bomb went off....so the POLICE/CID knew of an issue and were on a crack down mission when the enemy exploded the bomb...

Taliban have claimed responsibility. According to some it was done because CID had recently announced capture of 7 khawarij fasaadis who were involved in killings of shia doctors in Karachi.
There are many fasadis living in Karachi, who have moved from their bases in FATA. They are not only involved in dozakhi suicides but also a part of other crimes in the city. Like bank robberies, kidnapping for ransom, illegal land occupations.
This is how the khawarij stoke their movement.
But the roots of sectarian attacks lie in Punjab, where fasadis are Taliban-affiliates. Unfortunately, PMLN has a sectarian violence supporter as the law minister, Rana Sanaullah.

yes, apparently there was at least 20 minutes of firing in the air to disperse the crowd in order to minimize the casualties and only those stuck inside or nearby unfortunately died in this attack. CID is civilian controlled and thus the terrorist-backing agencies might have not liked the idea of their "assets" being under their arrest.
