A low in fat/calories sweet and satisfying dessert - any ideas?

Someone I crave something comforting and sweet, but being on a healthy diet at the moment I really dont know what to eat as I would like it low in fat.

I really miss cakes and ice cream and chocolate!

Any ideas? or suggestions please?

Re: A low in fat/calories sweet and satisfying dessert - any ideas?

how about not starving yourself completely and having a bit of your favourite dessert but in really tiny portions? :hmmm:

But if you still need options .. you can do the following:

  • Sooji halwa , dont add oil and nuts and use skimmed milk
  • Super chilled fruit yoghurt
  • Oatmeal cookies .. get the cookie mix from the shop and mix lots of oatmeal in it .. like almost 70:30 ratio .. 70% being the oatmeal and the rest , the cookie mixture… bake them …

CHicken B :hehe:

Can you please tell me how to make sooji halwa with little/no oil ?

Re: A low in fat/calories sweet and satisfying dessert - any ideas?

yup Inspi.. its really easy .. this is how you do it :

Really heat up a frying pan .. then lower the heat to medium. Then add half a tsp of oil and add in half cup semolina ... If you dont want oil at all , then start frying semolina directly without oil ...

After about 8-10 minute of frying, you will notice the powder changing color and becoming darker .. at that point add in skimmed milk almost about a cup and start stiring it really fast ... then immediately add in sugar to taste ... and if it becoems too thick, add in a bit more milk or water ...

Because you are conscious about calories i didnt mention adding nuts , werna I normally add a handful of nuts too ...

Enjoy :@:

:cb: I love it when you guys become so happy with just a recipe :hugz:

With siwaiaan the problem is that you will need to thicken the milk otherwise it wont taste as good .. but you can do this :

In a dry pan , add just a drop of oil ( or not if you dont want it ) and then add about a cup of vermicelli, stir it for three minutes and then add skimmed milk in it and sugar … and to thicken it , just mix one tablespoon of vanilla custard in a bit of milk and add it in the siwayaan when its almost fully cooked , ( been cooking for almost 20 minutes ) … after adding custard it will start gaining little bit of thickness … after five minutes , its ready .

Re: A low in fat/calories sweet and satisfying dessert - any ideas?

you know with skimmed milk its really really hard to get it to thicken ... and with dishes like siwaiaan and rasmalai .. its absolutely a must the milk becomes thicker consistancy ...

When hubby is on a diet , I continue to use the skimmed milk but adding vanila custard at the end gives it that texture i need ... you can actually taste the custard too but vanilla one usually adds as a nice taste ...

meringues

Re: A low in fat/calories sweet and satisfying dessert - any ideas?

can you make meringues with splenda?

Re: A low in fat/calories sweet and satisfying dessert - any ideas?

I've actually had these. It's a delicious and light dessert.

Frozen Raspberry and Cream Squares

Ingredients:

2 cups finely crushed reduced-fat vanilla wafers (about 65 wafers)
1/4 cup butter, melted
2 cups frozen unsweetened raspberries
3/4 cup reduced-fat sour cream
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup fat-free half-and-half

Directions:

In a bowl, combine the wafer crumbs and butter. Press half of the crumb mixture into an 8-in. square dish coated with cooking spray. Set remaining crumb mixture aside. Sprinkle berries over crust.
In a bowl, combine sour cream and sugar; gradually stir in half-and-half until smooth. Pour over berries. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Cover and freeze for 3 hours or until firm. Let stand at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before cutting.

I've read about people using splenda to make them but I've also read that using splenda prevents the meringues from forming a proper shape or something. You could try making them with splenda. Or you could have the normal sugar ones as a treat once in awhile.
