Miandad confirms plans to get son married to Dawood’s daughter

Former Pakistan cricket captain Javed Miandad finally cleared the air and admitted that his son will be marrying the daughter of Dawood Ibrahim.
Former Pakistan cricket captain Javed Miandad finally cleared the air and admitted that his son will be marrying the daughter of India’s most wanted man Dawood Ibrahim, even though the wedding date is not final yet.
‘‘Yes, there are plans for the marriage of my son to the daughter of Ibrahim but no date has been set for the marriage. When it happens everyone will know about it and they will be invited to attend the ceremony,’’ Miandad told ‘The News’.
‘’ We Muslims believe that marriages are made in heaven and we don’t challenge destiny,‘’ he added.
The former captain who also coached the national team, however, rubbished Indian media reports that the marriage was slated for next week in Dubai.
‘‘That is all rubbish, no date has been drawn up as yet and I will now request the press and the people to let this matter rest and allow us to live in peace. When it happens it will not be a secret ceremony,’’ Miandad said.
Miandad’s son Junaid has been studying at Oxford, while Dawood’s daughter is also based in London and the two apparently met there before courting each other. Their engagement took place last year, the daily reported.
On previous occasions though, Miandad had refuted the marriage prospect in the near future.
The former right-handed batsman never shed any light on whether his son is engaged to the daughter of the don who features high in India’s most wanted list.
When asked about the veracity of the engagement Miandad had said, ‘‘I have no comments to make on this issue. I don’t understand why people want to interfere in our personal and family life. I don’t interfere in anybody else’s personal life and we expect them to respect our privacy also. Talk to me about cricket affairs, I am willing to talk. But I have always kept my family away from the spotlight and their privacy should be respected.’’
Miandad also hinted that he was ready to face the barrage of criticism from the Indian press because Dawood Ibrahim had been identified as the mastermind behind the 1993 Bombay serial blasts.
He, however, defended the marriage saying his family, like any other, had gone for a well mannered, educated, religious girl for their son.
