Assalamualaikum,
OK , here is a confusion Last night in the Masjid i got to learn something new and amaizing. we got there a little late and here is what happened next…
since we missed fard raka for Isha due to some Aftar dinner, we (i and my sister) decided to pray fard raka during the 5 minute break time during the taraveeh. But and ARAB SISTER who was listening to our all conversation interrupted us and told us that we don’t need to pray fard but we can start 2 raka taraveeh when the imam starts again and can continue when he performs salam and pray 2 more raka in the same niyyah of tarveeh. And she even urged us to do it :–) anyways that was so sweet of her BUt
I still have this feeling that when we started salah we ha da niyyah of taraveeh and we ended up making it fard…What do you think it was ok to so?
Especially looking forward to the reply from ARMughal Brother in Islam ![]()
Never heard of it before. You need to say your farz prayer before joining the taraweeh.
Thread didnt get any quick response here so moving it to religion forum. Hopefully u will get ur answer there with refrences.

Well, I've done... started with the jammat is the second rakkat and keep going on until I finish the three farz rakkats for maghrib... which means you'll not be ending ur namaaz with the rest of the jammat. I didn't know about it until that day when we were late and my cousin said we can start in the second rakkat. Isn't that the samething? But I did my niyyat for maghrib, not anything else.
But then again, I follow the Shiite fikkah. So I dunno about you... :)
what i understood about this is :
'The arab girl was saying that you should start 2 rakaat traveeh's prayer behind imaam and do niyaat of your 4 rakat faraz, and when the imaam complete 2 rakaat traveeh prayer then you should continue to complete your remaining 2 rakat of isha prayer'
This may be allowed. Not sure. Check according to your fiqah
I haven't heard of that before. I always see that people (even Arabic) complete there fardh rakaa's before and then join the taraveeh prayer. Fardh is 'Fardh' and tarveeh is not and, therefore, its importance is much more than the taraveeh. However, I will try to ask around.
You should also check with the Imam of your mosque.
Does not seem right
Qiyaam-ul-Lail that is taraaveeh is sunnat Al mo'akkida and is always supposed to be prayed after the fardh of Isha.
Seems to be that the lady was thinking along the lines of not missing the jama'at of taraaveeh so it's her own interpretation of the things... I never heard such way of dealing in such situations from any of the four school of thoughts.. The fardh salaah has the top most priority in all four fiqah...
Wallah-O-Alam Bith Thawaab
yup there is no excuse for not praying Fard.

That is according to Hanafi fiqh. Arabs who follow Hanbali/Shafi fiqh do as described above by Code_Red. Its a matter of fiqh, to me its a matter of understanding, if you are satisfied by it then do it otherwise do it as you learnt it as you will be answering your deeds to Allah swt :)

I go with you...in Hanafi Fiqh we never heared ...
If it was the case, then must had seen in Pak!
As Anwaar also cleared Farz is Farz...and Tarweeh is sunnat-e mokaidah... so ...
Secondly if you have any bit of doubt ...you must leave that and do as you think is better!
May Allah give us guidence!
Thanks friends, but the problem is that Arab sister is concider an Aalima (pretty old and very religious) in community but I sure will go with the one's who siad we should have offer fard first but when we got there we had no idea if they were praying fardh or Traveeh at the moment, so we just had to join whatever it was--- and it was first Traveeh. anyways I think still we should have prayed fardh roht after that 2 rakah raveeh...that we did not because of confusion:--(
But anyways I hope our salah will be accepted because it was not on purpose but a lack of knowledge and understanding. May Allah guide us all Aameen!!

u did the right thing.. but then u should have prayed isha fardh after that .. still ALLAH is the one who accepts :)
when she told u to pray with the taraweeh, she did not mean that u make niyyah of taraweeh and continue with fardh....
since u had missed the fardh with the jamaa'at, she suggested that when the imam starts the taraweeh, u can join him in prayer by niyyat of fardh....
this way u will get atleast 2 rakaat of fardh with the jamaat, and when he ends his prayer (2 rakaat) with the salaam, u can stand up without saying salaam but with a takbeer, and continue the remaining 2 rakaats of ur fardh....
i prefer this if i am alone and miss fardh prayer, but if i have other ppl with me, then i prefer to make a separate jamaat so we can have the full fardh prayer iwith jamaat....
wallahu aalam bissawab....
