Yeah, I agree with the person who explained it as just getting together to have a little fun with another person (sometimes guys and gals both mean this to be purely physical thang ;) ) However, if someone said this to you, maybe it was just a casual/flirty way to say - hey, let's get to know each other a little better without any pressure of MARRIAGE hanging over our heads right now.

simply means having a non serious relationship and/or one nite stand when while you are away from home (e.g business trip ) and/or sleeping around.
talking between friends ( depending how close you are i.e good friends etc) can be take just as a joke.
talking with someone who might be hitting on you hard is deffinatley a call for jigi jigi ,
"its like ok so you dont want relationship cool how about just s*x" .
