A levels from london ?

i just want to know how to apply for a school in london for my A levels

Re: A levels from london ?

where about are you...? what have u done..?

Re: A levels from london ?

Hilal A - levels are usually done as part of the matriculation process- usually in Sixth Form colleges/ colleges...

Re: A levels from london ?

what is equivlent to A levels... in America. I know in Pakistan its FA/FSc....

High School graduation, which is 12th grade.

But A levels in Pakistan means challenging classes, so the Pakistani A level equivalent in the American system is 12th grade plus a semester of college since some of those classes can replace college classes.

In the UK, just what I have gathered from reading this forum, A-level = Inter, unless the person wants to take the challenging classes.

Re: A levels from london ?

sorry but this isnt helping me, offcourse i have done my O levels and i am waiting for my result .
The Sixth Form colleges is what i am interisted in

Re: A levels from london ?

There is no application procedure as such, unless you want to go to a private school, then they might have one.

Then (private school case) you contact the school you wish to attend directly and ask them how you can apply. They will probably want some proof of your results and maybe conduct an interview. Being able to pay the fees is the main factor here.

Most people who want to attend school in the UK for A levels turn up before the summer break and go to the school they are interested in directly (non private), if you live in the area they are almost obligated to take you on. You can turn up in September too and contact schools but since most places will be filled, it will be at the headteachers discretion if they will take any more students into the classes you are interested in.

Quite a lot of people we know have come over with their kids in September and had them admitted into Grammar schools - as long as their grades are good, the schools don't seem to have any problem taking them on.

If you're talking about getting a place and then applying for a student visa to come over... well that's another case which I'm not sure about. But I think you would have to have confirmation of place and your only option would be a private school.

Re: A levels from london ?

would you happen to know of some good private schools ?

Re: A levels from london ?

and which are better private or goverment ?
cause here there is a hell of a difference

Re: A levels from london ?

Talking from personal experience, having been to both a private school and a grammar school (government school but based on ability, so you have to pass tests/get good grades to get into) - I'd say they are about the same for A levels. You need to look at their rankings and see which schools get have most of their students getting A or B grades at A level.
There are some excellent comprehensive schools (government, non ability based) in the country too and if you're a good student you will do well. But I think most of those are outside London.

Whereabouts in London are you going to be living? I can tell you about schools in that area.

Re: A levels from london ?

can you post a link tellling of all the major schools in london with all the subs they offer and the prices etc

thats all wht i need
it will be very helpful of you

Re: A levels from london ?

i don’t really know of any such website. all schools offer all the major subjects and most of the minor ones too these days.
you will have to go to each school’s website for prices.

you can look thru here… keep looking thru all the pages from pg1 and look out for the schools based in london.

wallington boys and wilson’s are both grammer schools and in the surrey area (zone 6 of london). one of my brother’s used to go to wilsons and my youngest brother got admission to both and goes to wilson’s currently. they are both excellent schools.
Alleyn’s is a mixed private school in Dulwich and my cousin used to go there - aslo very good.

but it depends what you’re after. these schools are good if your aiming for oxbridge or the top london uni’s.

Re: A levels from london ?

Hilal you need to be more specific

Which country are you in now? What have you done? How much money to have to pay for your education? What are your future plans?

WHich area of london do you want to live in?

If you are in pakistan you cant just waltz into england and go to any school.

Re: A levels from london ?

if you looking for top notch private independent schools in London or Around.
try

  1. Eaton

  2. Harrow

above two are like Atchison of UK and i guess are full boarding schools and expect highest fees too. But also note, many prime ministers and presidents around the world have attended above schools.

now if want to look for schools in London, state schools/colleges are free of cost for locals, I havent seen any one advertising for international students.

private and independent schools do accept international students as they are not funded by govt. almost all the colleges offer A level and above vocational education. hope it helps

by the way why you want to do A level in London, when you can do this exam from Pakistan as well. it will have same weight.

I would suggest you should go for a degree in UK after finishing you A levels in Pakistan. That will be good.

Re: A levels from london ?

Hilal I don't quite get why you want to do A Levels from UK. It is not as if doing so will give you a head start or something. There are some excellent A Level institutions in Pakistan that send hundreds of students to Oxbridge, LSE as well top American universities. Many get scholarships but if you can foot the bill of education abroad you are in even better shape.

Re: A levels from london ?

Which schools in lahore, islamabad and karachi offer there ?

My result was 2 A's 1.C and the rest are B's

btw has any1 recevied his percentiles ?

Re: A levels from london ?

no percentiles this time. which is sad.

film studies, music and drama? lol. nice combo. i dont know any institute that offer these subjects and I am sure that not many actually take up this combination. but then, my view/knowledge might be limited.

let me give an advice. if u r too much interested in these art oriented fields, you have to wait for the right time. University level perhaps? for instance, NCA is a good university. As for the A'levels, I would recommend this subject combination:

Art and Design (more easy to find)
English Lit/ Economics
Maths
English Lang/Urdu Lang (if you can manage)

Eng/Urdu Languages are half-credit. Be Aware of that.

Re: A levels from london ?

Maths would be a real pain in the a**
but I strongly recommend it.

Re: A levels from london ?

come on this isnt helping me :(
