A Legal Question

Mods can move it to Pakistan Affairs if they choose to do so.

Is it legal under Pakistan law for a Muslim woman to marry someone from the ‘people of the book’ or a Hindu/Sikh for that matter?

Re: A Legal Question

As far as I remember, such a wedding is considered unlawful and I believe it comes under hudood ordinance as well as the case of Adultery (Zinaa bil Razaa)

Why is it so stupid. Isnt it the natural order of things or am I missing something here !!!

Re: A Legal Question

According to Islam, even men cant marry non-muslim ladies. People of Book means the rightous people not christians and jews. The muslims who follow the other shariat of other Prophets. Is it clear?

Re: A Legal Question

what about the shariat of prophet krishna and prophet ram? or is it only arab and semitic prophets who count?

Re: A Legal Question

Who said that Karishan and Ram were prophets. If they were then only the true followers of their shariat will be capable. Not Hindus of our time. Just like Christians and Jews, they are now non-muslims. Got it?

Re: A Legal Question

I don't want to discuss it based on any Shari'at. I just want to know what Pakistani law says about it. A link will be appreciated.

Re: A Legal Question

I am not sure if Pakistani law is violated if a Pakistani muslim woman marries a chiristian guy. As far as I know, case in point is the well-known marriage between former member of rock group, Junoon. His name is Brian - a gora Amreeki, who married Ayesha, a famous Pakistani model. My understanding is that they got divorced later, but well. I don't think any criminal or hudood case was ever registered against the couple.

Re: A Legal Question

^nobody registers cases aisai hi baithai baithai...most cases are registered by affectees...tho one can talk abt how did they make thier marraiger legal...its probable they had out-of-country marriage papers..

Re: A Legal Question

Ayesha Alam also converted out of Islam and into Christianity when she married Brian O'Connell.

Re: A Legal Question

Not really. We do have some really vailay lawyers who go around suing public figures for any and all perceived crimes. I’d be surprised if it was really against the law of the land to have a muslim woman marry a christian guy, and no one in Pakistan filed a law-suit against the marriage in a court of law.

I remember a lawyer filed a law suit against a cricketer for attending a party the night before a cricket match, and another filed a lawsuit against a player for endorsing an alcoholic beverage.

Not to mention the big hooplah about a drama scene several years ago where Usman Peerzada and Samina Peerzada were acting as a couple who are going through a divorce and in one scene Usman uttered the word “talaq” three times, and some known maulanas issued fatwa, that the real-life marriage of Usman and Samina has ended after recording that drama scene, and since they can not re-marry without a hilala, so the whole thing became a mess. As far as I remember, ultimately the Peerzadas decided to ignore the *fatwa *altogether.

Moral of the story: People in Pakistan seem to have a lot of free time to devote on public figures.

Re: A Legal Question

If she did it publicly, she’d be killed. No doubt. Oh well. Atleast according to law.

Re: A Legal Question

She admitted it in an interview done by Xtra a few years ago.

Whether she reverted back after her divorce, I do not know. The girl is rich apparently - no one will touch her.

Re: A Legal Question

ayesha alam is not really well-known in mass media, not really a 'public' figure...she has her own theatre company, the exclusivistic small-audience wala theatre... she does't matter so much as people of TV and films lie peerzadas or yr cricketers.

Re: A Legal Question

I always had the understanding the Aysha Alam was always a Christian :konfused:

If that was not the case, it would have been a big news. Anyways

Talking of Wailey advocates we have very own M D Tahir

He never gets tired to file useless law suits against anyone and everyone just for publicity
