Assalam O Aalaikom brothers and sisters,
How are you? This is a lecture about backbiting that I heard from ARY channel. I thought I would like to share this with you. Backbiting is the greatest sin ever. We should abstain from doing that. Not only backbiting person sins, but a person who listens to it also sins by getting involved into it. If someone is backbiting, we can do either one thing, leave or terminate them from doing it. We should be only doing one of those, if we keep listen or take interest into it, we are also obtaining the same sin as the person who is backbiting. If we are in a group of people, like in class where a teacher is backbiting others. We have no options to do anything since we cannot leave or cannot stop them. In that situation, what we can do is do not gain interest in listening to it.
Backbiting can be only done from one of the three reasons. If we are in a court where we have to speak up the true events, backbiting is allowed in that case. Another reason is that if a woman is getting married. If her parents know about a person who she is marrying, they have to tell her about how is he like. In that case it is not backbiting. Another example, If she wants to marry and her father didn’t like the person. It is better not to backbite, instead of doing that, he should not to talk about it. In fact, it is better to not to talk about it and just say I know about it. The third reason the backbiting is allowed is when you had a business partner that you used to work with and he cheated you. Afterwards, your friend is going to working with that person who cheated you, you can tell your friend that he cheats and what he did to you. In that case it is not a sin.
